  1. I would use a different card for each part of the wedding.

For example, bride getting ready on one, ceremony on the other, then when you leave the church to shoot on different location on another, then a different card for the reception. I would also mark the cards 1,2,3,4 so I would know what card to use next.

  2. Zdravstvuite,

Mark I think that you did a great job shooting your first wedding.

Just a quick critique I think with number 9 of the bride near the mirror, you should of got her looking at herself in the mirror.

Also, keep looking at bridal magazines etc, to help you with your composition.

  3. Hi Tara,

A small idea in your marketing technique. I think you should focus on businesses that are needed in a wedding, such as florists, car rental, bridal boutique, hairdressers etc.

For a promo idea you could offer a pre-bridal shoot that will allow the brides to wear their dress again and also assist you in building your portfolio. Then they will see your work and be comfortable working with you and the money wont be such an issue.

    Just my 2 cents worth

  4. John,

If you say in your 'contract' night shots extra and the bride doesnt pay, but you see some people taking images outside that you are not meant to take in the first place.

So you decide to; I guess thats thats not stealing no... its called 'photo journalism'. Since your make money off it right.

Next time your invited as a guest, go as a guest and set up a shot that the photog wont do and see if the Pro will come behind you and take it

    Respecting the photogs contract

I will give you a scenario. Your best friend is getting married and wants you to be a guest, instead of shooting it. So you are a guest and act like a guest.

The location back drop sydney harbour bridge. The reception held at the old sydney casino, based on the harbour with a backdrop of the opera house and bridge.

The main photographers contract states NIGHT SHOTS OUTSIDE thats an extra $500 AUS. The bride doesnt pay that and knows there will be no shots outside the restaurant.

So, the bride and groom are outsiding smoking with you and your friends and then you decide hey since 'you dont wanna pay the extra 500 AUD i will shoot it'.

So, you set up the bride and groom, use the lamp post as a prop and extra lighting (like a slave)... and BAM!!! just about when you are going take the button... the 2 photogs are standing behind you..with their tripod, and slave unit and steal YOUR pose, YOUR idea and take it... selling it to the bride and groom for 50 AUD at the pick up of the images and enlarged of course.

This didnt allow me to get the shot i wanted.. is that fair? I was acting outside their contract, and I didnt shoot inside. They stole my shot and sold it to the b&g.

They made money from what I did... Is that fair? I did it out of my heart, to give them something that they would have FOR FREE and the photogs (yes i know its a business) did it and SOLD it to them..

So now who is infringing upon who?

Not offering a product and then doing it outside the contract, what is that all about?

  6. Well i havent just skimmed the whole post.. its really long and i cant focus.. think its all the sugar..

    anyway, i had an idea..

you know how you go to movies and you see shhh.. no mobile phones sign etc

wouldnt it be funny if they have a sign.. 'no photographs allowed' by the means of gsm's, slr, dlr's etc, no aspiring photogs, no professional photographers showing off with medium format etc (hehe i did it once)

  7. Unfortunately with the rise in digital, no care is taken with customers roles. Too much emphasis is placed upon sales of digital cameras. They are actually getting more pay than I was getting when I first started back in 1996.

If the negs are dirty you can ask them to restabilize the negs thru the c41.. i think its the last 2nd rollers. They probably wouldnt know that.

Yes, i was one of those pimply faced people who worked at kodak for 7 years casually and i took pride in my work and that of my customers.

I use to spot the prints too. And clean the rollers every time I shut the store

And dump the tanks when the chemistry was contaiminated..

I have heard (i dont work there anymore) that they dont do any maintenance at all.

I wonder when they open the store, if they put thru a test strip and see if it is within the limits.

Reminds of the movie One hour photo with robin williams hehe)

  8. Hi Mrs H

What brand of CF card were you using?

Did you try and take out the CF card when it was deleting?

In answering question b, anything like exposure to heat etc can damage the card. So, if its heat affected from the sun, then you have pretty much damaged the card... (something like when you damage film to sun and the images come out magenta).

Also, if you havent formated your cf card before the first use, it can cause problems.

  9. regarding the macers logo

i remember in law (back along time ago) that it has to be 10 percent different and in a different industry

for example they taught us a law case mc donalds restaurants vs mc donalds wine.

(i am sure that the lawyers here could help you
