I've read again. "I don't mind for speed or focal length" and you have a Leica M5.
Cosina-Voïgtlander Ultron 35 f/1.7.
-
I like the old Takumar 50mm f/1.4 too I don't if they have look you're seeking but many are yellow and the oldest are really radioactive.
Here is what I got from a yellow and radioactive one.
-
Are you looking for a rangefinder lens ?
If not the Rokkor 58mm f/1.2 for Minolta MF SLR maybe a good alternative.
-
Peter I'm afraid you forgotten your license to kill ;-)
-
Bob I'm not sure the IIIg is the perfect match for the Vespa.
A Rolleiflex and a Vespa was the basic equipment for the Roman paparazzi.
-
Seriously...
Hmm well not that much...
Who or what is the most reliable.
The Leica, the DB5 or the girl with Agent Provocateur underwear ?
-
A big mistake IMO. An Agent Provocateur Underwear with the girls that fits inside is more interesting that any fancy fountain pen...
-
Well, in total darkness you don't need any hood....
Rigid vented are popular because :
- They are less prone to obstruct you finder,
- They're rigid, thus more protective for your lens if something goes wrong,
- They look nice (Vanity, pure vanity...).
-
BTW is there any model here interested in posing wearing only a Leica MP, Agent Provocateur Underwear and Pierre Hardy shoes ;-)

John,
I realize that I did not fully understand what yu wrote about the Canon 12-120 Macro T 2.7.
After all even if the movie industry has a lot of money to spend 1,250$ for atop-quality zoom is cost-effective if you compare to some Leica, Canon or Nikkor primes...
IMO it's worth trying to attach witth the Planar 85/2.0 (with hacked body cap, glue and adhesive tape...) to some SLR body to see what you can get in 35mm still photography....
OK its a bit extreme, but I remember hacking with a 35mm Angenieux lens for (stop breathing again...) 8mm cameras that can cover full 35mm frame for macro work and was very sharp...
-
Yeahhh ! Finally I got it right !
Many thanks !

"I'm not aware of any f2.7 Fluorite Canon zooms for 35mm still cameras that would result in 12mm on half frame :-)"
John I'm afraid this works in the other way. A 35mm with half frame crop factor will result in a a 70mm.
But well it doest work like this. The standard focal for movies camera is roughly twice the standard focal for still photography. Thus the standard lens for movie camera is a 50mm even if they are roughly using half frame still photography format.
-
Well I agree with you, there is some very special lenses for movies cameras. But there's also some still photography lenses used for movie camera.
I know that Stanley Kubrick used some Zeiss f/0.75 for Barry Lyndon but he also used a Canon 50/0.95 made for the Canon 7. The Canon 50/0.95 is not that common but there is at least one for sale every week on the Net.
Considering focal and aperture a 85/2.0 is nothing that will drill a second hole in my ass, excuse me if I get trivial, so may it well be a still photography lens.
I've made some Google search about a Planar 85/2.0 and, my mistake, it seems that there was no Planar 85/2.0 for Contarex only a Sonnar 85/2.0. But on the other side I found a Planar 85/2.0 for Leica M (I don't what is it ? old ? new ? converted ?) for sale in Spain for (keep breathing) 2400 euros. So its worth testing if the lens can work for still 35mm photography and why not MF ?.
My personal opinion ? I'm afraid this lens will have nothing special compared to an affordable Rokkor 85/1.7 or a more expansive brand new Planar 85/1.4.

Raymond I have a Nicca Type 3 too. Its an excellent shooter looking much better than my Leica. But it feels very different... Exactly what you wote the "sensual feel of it my hands".
-
Yes 36mm cameras are half frame or less.
On the other hand it seems that 35mm still photography lenses are often used on movie camera because the market is so narrow compared to still photography that there is non economic reason to create a downgraded version of a still photography lens for movie use. It would be interesting to compare this lens with a Planar 85/2 for Contarex to see if the design is different.
-
BTW Raymond don't worry your Leica looks genuine to me.
And if there are fake Leicas made with Nicca I don't think they are common.
-
Winfried,
It's possible to make a fake III with something else than a Zorki or Fed. A Nicca type 3 with a Leica top plate would make a nice fake. Considering the current price of a Nicca compared to a Leica I don't think there's much money to earn now. But in the past ?
