mid 80s, Olympus OM cameras, I'm thinking my first zoom was a Vivitar 80-200/4 or so. It's been a few years.

personally, as much as I would like to see the country, I would not travel there at all as any economic infusion on my part is nothing more than support for genocide - and a genocide supported by those wonderful Buddhist monks. It would be like going to Nazi Germany and doing the rounds of the tourist icons.

the 8mp compacts were some of the nicest cameras of the day and into many years forward.

if you have the opportunity to go into a store, put the various wide-angle lenses on your camera and see which has the field of view you would like to work with, which handles the way you want it. Different people have different choices. These days, my choice is not to go with a prime at all and use the Panasonic 8-18. On my Pen-F. Together with the 14-150II. To just walk around with.

I remember when this was the cat's ass for 4x5s.

so, what would you consider a reasonable amount?

Have a friend who used to use a battery dependent RZ67. His solution was to wrap some chemical hand warmers to the bottom of his camera. Just make sure they are wrapped and in contact themselves with the body.

I would like the Horseman 612 roll film back.

I have never met a Contax slr body I didn't like.

I like Ray's answer.

that role of 1992 film seems to have held up pretty well.

Andrew, I think that Kent has some good advice although I think that you could combine the Grand Canyon and Utah into one - you just wouldn't be able to get intimately involved in any place. It would be drive-through but at least you could see the highlights. ps. for me, your destinations would be a 3 month drive.

given current technology and your proposed subject material, I would be going with the D500. Reach and auto focusing capability. From what I have seen, I do not believe there to be a massive difference in ISO capability. Cropped 810 is slightly less, down-sized 810 is better.

take a good look at many of the native mount lenses for the Sony A series - they are bigger than this. Part of the reason these adapters works for people is the ability to use different brand older lenses on a FF body.

I am in Canada but with easy access to US stores.

In a bid to renew an acquaintance with a 4x5, I am looking for some new b&w film to load my holders up with. Its been a few years since I shot any and I am unfamiliar with what is available these days and maybe more importantly, where it might be available from. I am looking for perhaps one film speed, good for all-round shooting under most circumstances - basically something as forgiving as possible. Any recommendations?

unfortunately, these days, I need in-body stabilization. Going big with Sony and small(travel) with Olympus. My Fuji stuff will be on the block.

EM5ii back screen is on a hinge and will close. Actually prefer the old up-down one on the EM5 but that may not work as well for video.

you may consider the 28/f2 or the 24/f2 lenses, maybe the 35/1.4; the 55/1.2 is cheaper than the 50/1.2. Although I don't think there speedbooststers available, I would consider Olympus Zuikos like the 21/3.5 and their 2.8s in the 20+ mm range. Depending on your point of focus, wide open with a 28 could give you a lot of OOF areas even on m4/3s.

if this camera was your grandfather's, if you afford it, get it repaired and put it away for once a year use and buy a replacement. The FE2 is relatively inexpensive, a lifetime memory of your grandfather may be priceless.

I think the best person to answer your questions would be the poster of the conversion on manual focus lenses.

I saw this review by some-one whose reviews I respect. Jim Kasson.
