Hi, Is it just me or are they just awful it has taken something like 6 emails, 10 faxes and probably 20 hours on
the phone to spend 200 dollars to do a cross platform upgrade of cs. im not sure its worked but i am sure im not
giving them another dime if it hasnt.. wondering if anyone else has had such a frustrating and AWFUL experience.
I would think the point of customer service it to enourage not discourage sales.

I just had my formerly trusty wolverine flash pac die. i was not using it as a backup to the cf cards, i was offloading the images and reusing the cf cards. Poof entire trip gone (well i was able to get 90% back by paying a data recovery place a tidy sum.)
Lesson learned.
IF all your eggs are going to be in one basket, make it the CF cards as you have to trust them to be the sole source for a little while anyway. Plus if something goes wrong, you'll only lose what was on the card. Go buy the cards. If you can afford some sort of backup to offload and not erase the cards you are covered.

Hi Srujan,
Enjoy New Zealand - it is spectactular. I didn't do the Routeburn track but i recently did the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu and i too was very concerned about batteries as we camped 3 nights and there was no electricity (although it turns out there is a public outlet on the 3rd night.)
I had 2 fully charged batteries from my 20D and i was fine. I didn't skimp on shooting (tho i didnt do any reviewing of shots beyond some exposure chimps in the moment.)
I had done some experimenting with how many days i could go one 1 battery and frequent shooting before i set out so i was confident it was going to be all good.
I believe the cold weather drains batteries - so keep them in an inside pocket and inside the sleeping bag at night.

Are you sure you have the original layer selected? If you are on a curve layer for example you would be unable to clone. (Its a favorite mistake of mine.)

Hi,
I did a day trip to Brooks Lodge from Anchorage this past July and it was absolute amazing. I would have loved to stay longer but the whole trip was last minute. I believe the lodge or camping is your only option if you want to be close to Brooks Falls.
Mid July was great for the salmon running and the bears out to take advantage of it in the falls
We did all of our travel with the Alaska Rail (except Katmai which we flew into) the rail is limiting in some ways it was also a great experience.

Hi,
Fly.... and i would recommend doing a tour with Anangu - it was a wonderful experience. You go with an Aboriginal guide and English speaking translater.

i've used a shower cap around my camera body and then cut a lens sized hole thru a standard gallon freezer sized ziplock - held it all in place with a rubber band and a touch of gaffer tape. Its a bit McGuiver but it works well enough for light rain shooting.

Wow, a wolf that's so cool. Where in the park were you? I was just out there myself i thought i was lucky to see grizzly, caribou and moose. As for the mountain, i decided it was myth since it wasnt visible at any point during my stay in Alaska.

Michael - i just got my monster book. I am much much much happier with the results this time.
Again, i soft proofed in the "bonsai HP color space" and on a handful of pages i made some minor curve adjustments based on how the soft proofing looked.
I completely ignored the out of gamut stuff. The only pages where this led to some issues was predictably a sunsest shot but having said that its not terrible and im not sure the average (read non obsessive) person would notice.
The only thing i dont like is how fingerprint prone the covers is.

Hi,
I may be offer some practical advice tho i wont pretend i understand the technical nature of this one, i struggled to crash learn exactly what out of gamut means a few months ago.
My first blurb book I did exactly what you did - softproofed with the bonsai HP Indigo 5000 ICC CMYK profile (and uploaded the book srgb.) I did "stuff" to bring everything into gamut and at the end of the day i was disappointed at how flat it all seemed - both on screen and unsurprisign also the printed book.
My next blurb book (and another one i did using My Publisher) i softproofed but didnt make any real changes based on gamut and was MUCH happier with the results. (Again uploaded srgb as they instruct you to do.)
I am currently proofing another book, my largest, and with a lot of vivid images (a vacation photo book from Oz/Nz/Hi) I am not going to go to any extremes to get it into gamut (although a few images i did make a curves adjustment if the overall image's brightness values changed a lot between srgb and the "bonsai HP Indigo 5000 ICC CMYK profile" Again i plan on just letting it go as srgb.
I need to not look at any of the 209 pages (I am insane) for a few days before i give it a final proof and upload and send it off. But I'd be happy to write back to you around the end of the month when i anticipate getting it back.

Im on a PC too... and Bridge is tempermental for me. Some days it works smoothly and quickly and other days it just drags and crashes. The adobe forums have a lot of comments about people having problems. I havent been back in a few days but last i looked i saw no solutions yet.

I think the easiest way is Edit>Stroke you chose the color and px width of the the line.

Hi,
I think for something printed i that might be low .... on the other hand maybe a state magazine over a national/worldwide magazine makes a huge difference but i know that Rolling Stone pays $50.00 for on line usage. (for me it was well worth it to say i was published by rolling stone, if only online.)

i coated my hat and clothes pretty throughly for hiking thru the rainforest in costa rica, i had no problems with my gear

I was on the big island in December - It is beautiful, and i would recommend reading up on what interests you and your wife the most then try and break you trip up into 2 or 3 hotels staying near what you want to see most. Certainly makes sunrise/sunset shots easier that way.
The two most remarkable things we did was sunset/stargazing tour on Mauna Kea (we went with Hawaii Forest and Trail) and the dusk hike to see the lava flowing into the ocean in Volcano's National Park. If you're up to this, it is a strenuous hike and in the dark particulary challenging bring plenty of water, snacks and spare batteries for your flashlight. It was one of the coolest things i have ever seen - we were very lucky and saw a lot of lava.
I went snorkling just below the Captain Cook Monument in Ka'awaloa Cove it was a very good spot, i had also heard that the beach just beside the place of refuge (i cant remember the name right now) was also a very good spot
oh, and i 2nd the recommendation for Lonley Planet's guide to the Big Island

Aloha Michelle,
(i wish i were in hawaii again right now)
im guessing the camera is turned on to the line above on (if it isnt it should be)
with the camera set to manual (M):
the wheel in the back should set to all apatures your lens allows
the dial on the top right of the camera should be adjusting your shutter speed... without any limitation.
can you adjust the shutter in other modes, like Tv the shutter speed mode?
perhaps its a mechanical problem

LOL on 50-100 years on the right skin. I would try Nail Polish remover.

Hi, I was just there in November - it will be even hotter in Feb - water, sunscreet, and hat are essential. the fly net is not a bad idea as they're persistent. i did the sunset tour with the Anangu group which i would higly recommend for the Aboriginal tour guide plus English speaking Interpreter. And for photography you will want to drive yourself to where you want to be for sunset and not be with all the tour buses.
Best time of day is sunrise/sunset as others have mentioned. In addition to the heat factor the lighting gets pretty harsh leading up and even past midday.
I stayed for 3 days which was both a little long and just right for doing all that we wanted to do out there... we got in late afternoon and did the sunset tour, next day we did the walk around the rock - we chose to repsect the request not to climb, then late in the day/evening did the Kata Tjuta (olgas) then our 3rd day we did trip out to Kings Canyon.

Hi, I just picked up the underwater housing for my Fuji f11 - im going to be
going to Cairns (Great Barrier Reef) and Hawaii shortly and will be doing some
snorkling.
I have been doing a bit of reading but am intersted in tips - my prior
experience with underwater shooting has been (unusurprisingly) very
dissapointing results with throwaway cameras....

hi,
i have just learned that my lab (adorama) has just updated its icc profile - i
learned this as i brought a large job in.

The jpg files are all
created from HUGE psd files, and i was wondering if i could just create an
action to re profile and then resave the images. I dont think re saving the
highest quality jpg a 2nd time will create a noticeable problem but would re
profiling the images lead to a problem... i can go back and redo with all the
psd files if necessary.

thanks in advance

THANK YOU ALL FOR A GROANER LAUGH

actually, i have another question regarding this camera (the f11 but im guessing it would be the same in the f10 too) if you disable the bright green autofocus assist light (manual focus is not an option) will the camera still focus properly?
-
Hi, As others have suggested definitely set your iso as high as you can, change your metering to spot (or center) and try and time your shots in the best lights that the performer is using. i also often will shooting in shutter priority between 100 & 125 so that you are fast enough to hand hold without all that mothion blur.

I too shoot raw on vacation, and i tend to "tweak" contrast on jpgs too so i may as well shoot raw.

Jim Lawson - LOL i got back from a month in NZ shot a lot of pictures, am still going through them. My friends are not at all understanding the holdup since im digital.

Dan Lovel - intriguted by your rubber band packing, how big are these rubber bands you are securing your clothes with? I tend to roll and stuff into stuff sacks but always intrigued by ways i can shove more clothes into a small bag.
canon G9 LCD
in Mirrorless Digital Cameras

cracked the LCD on my 8 month old G9 - i inadvertently slammed it against something. the camera is still shooting crisp and clear but the lcd displays nothing but a spiderweb - anyone have any idea if this sort of thing can be repaired (and what the cost would be - i went out of my way to get the G9 before the G10 as i liked the zoom better.) Many thanks for your help.
