1. Hi All,
I got a wired problem with my D100. Sometimes my AF assist light stop

    working.
I mean, even if it's realy dark and the light is also not over heating

    !
The only way I found to bring it back is to perform a reset of camera.

Right after in the same condition it work again perfectly.
Turning off and on dosen't help.

Has any body an idea what it can come from ?

Kind regards,
Marc
2. Hi Brittney,
I used often Short DOF in portraits. I like how it "highlight" parts of the portraits.
Take a look to my "Mélanie" and "Pauline" folder in my portfolio.

The tricky part with short DOF is to focus at the right "place", not closer and not to fare ! It happen often that I miss a shot because the small sharp part was at the wrong place.
So I have a lot of respect of your shot, because using short DOF with children is realy difficult !

Kind regards,
Marc
3. Don,
I totaly agree with that statment.
However if you are not the maintenaire of the webserver and only got some hosting space (situation of the most people), I would not guess that the root will allow you to "play around" with the main config file !
Maybe he will setup the directory for you but then you "lost" control.
So often the .htaccess file is the only way you have to setup a easy access control.

Kind regards,
Marc
4. Hi Gloria,
It's realy easy to do if the server where your web page is hosted allow it.
If it's a Apache webserver (mostly used on the internet) you can use .htaccess files wich allow to protect directorys of your web files tree.
If it's the Internet information server (micro$oft) then it's an other way, but the idea is the same.
If you work on the server side you don't need any scritping.

Feel free to contact me over ICQ (116863251) or email and I will help you with this. :-D

Regards,
Marc
5. Hi,
I bought an old 500CM (1976) and I'm realy happy with it.
As Xi Zou told 6x6 is a realy different format as 6x4.5 (wich is more like the 35mm and so you "just" get a larger negatif or slide).

With the hassy you get a square format and a different point of view due to way as the body is build.
But I have to agree that Hasselblad is expensive even on teh used marcket !

BTW: square format is cool because you don't have to think if the shot would be better horizontal or vertical !

Regards,
Marc
6. Hi,
I did some shot of this kind. I did it because it was looking funny ! :-) Isn't it ?

Here, for example, with a short DOF (it's not for nothing that I bought a 85mm f1.4 ;-), a picture from my "Mélanie" folder:

I take one other looking along the body of a nude girl from the feet to the head with a short DOF on the feet. Unfortunaltly I have no print handy wich I could scan. (Will first have to finish the setup of my new lab).

Regards,
Marc
7.
Hi Gili,

My favorite combination for indoor shooting (like

in nightclubs) is my F80 with the 85mm f1.4 !
The 85mm f1.4 AFD is realy a great lens !!! However it's also a bit heavy. For

my it's not a problem as the F80 is light.

Maybe you should try Eric solution first this with the monopod, it's probably

the chipest. Another solution is also to try the 80-200 with a F80, this camer

is much cheaper as the 85mm f1.4. Or if you accept a weaker lens you can try

    the 85mm f1.8.

Other solution: We switch our cameras, you get my F80 and I get your F5, isn't

    this a great idea ? ;-)

Regards,
Marc

  8.
Hi Tom,

I think the best way is still to found you models to work with. However I can

only explain you how I manage to get models to take pictures. It worked for

me, so it will probably work for you.
Here is a brief(okay not that brief :-/) biography of my photographic life (I

started in december 2001) mainly focused on studio photos with models.

I was lucky, I got a friend Mélanie (see the Melanie

galery), wich was in a dance group so is not realy shy. So I started my

first studio photo with her. Most of the work of the first session was crapy

:-( Still lucky she found the session fun even if the result wasn't great, she

accepte to make a second one. I finaly I got some nice

    shots !
She agreed that I show the pictures from the second session but forbid me the

    one from the first.

As I respected her wish we build a relation based on strong trust. Wich helped

    me a lot later.

With this work I builded her a public website

    and a hidden part for

the aware people. This aloud me to tell all people I meet taht I was doing photograhy

and could easly show them them me "work" ! :-)

I met in a nighclub a lovely women wich was also doing photography

wich was intersted in my studio work and asked to attend on a session, as Mélanie

was in holidays she provided the model, her sister Florie. BTW: Florie accepted

that I publish picture of her but not on the Internet, as I'm a reliable guy

no picture of her are here on photo.net or on my website.
However her sister published a picture

of her (not a realy nice one if you ask me usualy, she looks very nicer).

Mélanie was was happy with the pictures and showed them to all her friends,

as I meet most of her friends I spoke "photography" to them. And still

more lucky Pauline (see the Pauline

galery), wich was also part of the people I knew, was intersted to make

picture for her boyfriend as a suprise. We did finaly 2 sessions :-)

Mélanie's sister was also interested by photo shoot (see the Anaïs

galery), so we did a session.

One of my collegue agreed too, we did 2 sessions. She never agreed that I show

the pictures other than to my close friends. Wich is a bit ashame as there are

realy nice high contrast black&white photo, a bit like this one

that I have done with Pauline.
BTW: I loved so much this kind of shot that I did even wrote a "howto"

    on my website.

Nathalie another friend of Mélanie realy chase me for a session, we

did on, but it's not on-line at the moment.

I all sessions with the models I had worked with, they finaly ended a bit undressed.

I was supprised how, with a trust based relation, it was easy to make her agree

    to undress.
All of them agreed to show her nude chest on the picture, most accepted to posing

    nearly nearly naked.
The most important is the trust they have in me, and the next is not to break

    this trust !!!

Finaly I got intersted to make real nude pictures, a bit like Owen

    O'Meara or John

    Peri in his "Nudes

in black and white" folder but with my own minimalistic style. I finaly

got in touch with another friend of Mélanie, Emilie, we already did 2

sessions and I hope there will be a lot more !!! :-D
I had no time to put all on-line, however here

    are just 3 of them.

So this is the actual state I'm in, will see what I'll do next ! :-D

Okay it's a bit long I agree and it's may be not the right place after all

    I agree, however now it's writen :-/
Please accept my appologies !

What you can learn from this Tom is that, first find you a model, build a trusty

relation, have a lot of respect of your model. Then build on this relation,

ask him/her if they has friends who could be interessted.
Tell all the people that you are doing photography and that you are looking

for amateur models and show them your work.
You will be suprised how many people are interested.
And then be patient, the life will bring you the opportunities !

I got somewhere interesting links with great information, If I'm able to found

them I will send them to you.

Regards,
Marc

PS: After all I think I will copy this to my website.

  9. Hi,

I used often this angle of view to make my portraits shot.
It is a way to get the main focus on the head and still show the body.

Look at the following picture, it's a high angle headshot with a short DOF (thank you Nikkor 85mm f1.4D), but it's defenitly not show the eyes !
I got some more high angle shots in my "Mélanie" gallery.

Regards,
Marc
10. The main problem IMHO is that the girl is hidden "in" the background.
There is not enough contrast between the background and her.
As said Lacey Smith, dressed differently would by ok.

As the girl is so close to the background you get shadows on one side of the pictures, what is not realy nice here.

Regards,
Marc
11. Hi Mark,
I use mainly Ilford film now.
I was using ID-11 (stock) for any film up to ISO 400 and Microphen for faster films.
I'm now switching over to ilfotec DD-X for any film. I prefer liquid solution.

As I like to be on the save side I don't reuse my developer, so the max amount of film I was able to proceed in my 1L tank was 4 120 roll and 1 135mm.

Regards,
Marc
12. Hi Wayne,
I use the FP4+ for normal outdoor photos when it's enough light is avaible.
FP4+ and HP5+ are old fashion films. Ilford 100 Delta pro and Ilford Delta 400 pro are (like the T-Max serie newer) less grainy.
Most of time I like the old looking grain ! :-) Most of time I use the HP5+ !
However when you do big prints the grain is realy strong ! :-/

BTW: FP4+ and HP5+ are cheaper the the new one.

Never used the Tmax 3200, always used the Ilford 3200 !

Have fun with your films ! ;-)
13. Hi Ricado,

I would say that choosing a film is not only mater of speed but also matter of the film texture.
FP4+ and HP5+ are films from the same generation (old fashion now).
As you shoot in 645 I'm nearly shure that in half letter size you will not notice a difference between this 2 films. Maybe in the bigger prints.
But as the 11x14 prints will probably not been showed side by side it's not realy dramatic if they have a different texture.

Probably the best is to shoot a roll of each and see what comes out.
However I would, in is this case, work with the 2 films depending of the light.

14. Hi All,
Yesterday I shot 3 rolls of the new delta 400 in a nightclub, due to

the low light I have oushed it to 800.

    Two 120 rolls and a 135mm.
I want now to process it with ID-11 in a spiral tank. As I never

pushed and processed my self a new delta 400 I was wondering if

anybody has some infos for my ???
I did it with a HP5+ and end-up with a realy high contrasted

    negatif.

Any tips and tricks ?

Tank you !
15. I brought a Hasselblad, why ?
Because I step over it in a photoshop, it was a used one, the price was "nice" and finaly I fall in love with it !

Just to let you know, my 500CM was build in 1976 and it's working without any problem ! :-)

BTW: The used market is full of realy prety stuff for realy good prices (even for Hasselblad) now.
