  1. The comment about astigmatism is interesting.

I also experience the same problem and I am indeed astgmatic, but I never linked the two.

I found that simply being conscous of the issue when I am framing helps correcting it. Often when I stop and really look carefully, I notice that indeed I am framing incorrectly, though it felt instinctively right to start with.

  2. If you both live in the UK just offer to pay on collection.

Unless you live in Land's End and he lives in John O'Groats it should be quite feasible for a max 50 pount fare or petrol money.

If he doesn't accept cash on collection then something's fishy.

  3. On a 10D you always have to shoot RAW+JPEG. The only thing you can change is the quality of the JPEG file. This creates two files per image taken. One is the RAW proper (.CRW) the other is a JPEG thumbnail, 9k in size (.THM).

Of course I shoot RAW so that I can create the best images possible(JPEGs, TIFFs or whatever) but when speed is of the essence, expecially on the field, it is useful to quickly extract the embedded JPEG. I haven't done this in a while as I didn't need to, but if I remember correctly it could be done with Canon file viewer (Extract/JPEG).

I could try to reload it into Vista and take my chances it doesn't screw anything up.

  4. What I get is a CRW file and a THM file. The THM is indeed a JPG but only a thumbnail. I need to extract the beefy one and as far as I know it is embedded in the RAW file. I know I can do this with the Canon software but I have upgraded to Vista and wodering whether there is anything better to do the job.
  5. Michele,

Sorry if I state the obvious but have you checked whether the you have the display set to "off"?

Try and press the display button a couple of times and see what happen.

You say "If I try to take a pic anyway with just using the viefinder, but the LCD black, I get a black image."

Is the image black when you look at it on the computer or is it just that the display doesn't give you a preview of it?

If the former is true then the camera is broken.

    Good luck,

    Stefano

  6. I have been approached by someone in the US (I am UK based) requesting a price

for a very high res file of one of my photos to be printed on a set of blinds.

Whilst I wouldn't mind having the blinds printed and sold by me I am quite

reluctant to send a high res file across the ocean for someone's private

    printing.

    What is your opinion?

    Thanks for your help.

  7. ... and only returned recently after about 10 months or so.

I posted some new photos and received very few rates, comments or views.

Basically the systems seems to have a much lower activity level than it used to

have a year ago or so.

Has anybody noticed this and is there a specific rason for it?

Of course I am quite ready to accept that nothing has really changed other than

the interest towards my photos or even their quality.

    Cheers,

    Stefano

  8. I am intrigued by the newly announced Canon Ixus 900 Ti so I did a search to

check prices and availability (I live in the UK).

I stumbled upon www.ukdigital.co.uk and they quote the camera at ?299 (100

punds lower than other retailers) and they say they have the camera in stock

(other retailers say delivery will commence on 31/10)

Are these guys serious? Has anyone used them before?

    Cheers,

    Stefano
