3.
samar i dont know whether the p 90 can accept any separate speed light like sb 400 or sb 600 as there is no hotshoe on top of p90.or ( any remote wireless flash commanding option is available for p90.?no i dont think so)
i will opt for a d60 or d3000 with a faster 50 mm 1.8 lense for better bright indoor pictures.

  4.
after coolpix 8800 it seems that nikon simply drop their tradition of ruggedness and quality package in the field of prosumer digicams.it was actually a gradual decline.
lex ,you know this 8800 still in demand in the used market.(at least in asian countries)
now the growing demand towards micro four thids system is may be one of the sign that all DSLR users
quest for a light wieght package as a back up .
we every one like to see a p&s like leica digilux 4, leica x1, sigma DP 2..or lumix LX3 from nikon.(with keeping in mind all thier pros and cons ).

  5.
for the flash compatibility issues. i can use my old flashes ( example SB28) effectively in non ttl mode with new nikon digicams. but in case of P90 there is no hot shoe even.
i am thankful to every one for the quick responses.

  7.
lex actually i was insearch of a good digicam from the nikon line up because i was familiar with their terminology and lay out.
BTW i had few occasions handled the LX3 AND p 90 and G10 .
for my way of shooting i was very impressed with the quick responsiveness and low light performance of LX 3 .
i liked the close focussing ability of old coolpix models -for macro wok( CP5400, CP 4500,CP 5700,CP 995) bu the new cp 6000 or p 90 not matching with them at least in this field.my idea of a prosumer digicam should not be a big zoomer or megapixel racer, or a not a technology packed toy with so many unwanted features instead with a reasonably large sensor and a moderate x focal length with IF .
thanks a lot

  8.
this is just to share some thoughts about nikon point and shoots.
currently there is no -'quality digicam ' - from nikon as a back up point shoot !!current models
cp p6000 or cp p90 are really crap when comparing with panasonic LX 3,OR canon g10
or ricoh GR 3.
now even leica introduced thier point and shoot recently(X1) along with range finder M9.
as a nikon slr user i myself felt many times that ..nikon should introduce some p&s with
large sensor, 4 or 5x (maximum) zoom lense with internal focus (like old cool pix models), and with
of course image stabilisation. folks ,what do u think?

  9.
thank you todd
i was really waiting someone like you to say about 170-500 mm from thier own experience.
i read from the reviews that upto 400 or 800 ISO, D90 will perform very well. so i can shoot bird photos
with this lense moderate higher ISO ..maintaining acceptable quality.(i do believe so)

  10.
thanks a lot to everyone
liegh ... D300 is expensive here in DUBAI.
the prize of D90KIT is equal to sonyA700 kit( a body with image stabilisation ).
this might be a reason why my friend advise me like this.
any how since all of my lenses except sigma 170-500 (BTW ..this also a D type)can meter and AF with D90 its not the time to think about any other system .
i think sb-400 will be a good combination with D90...is in' t it?

  11.
thank you stuart for the prompt response.
i'll try D90
JDM von weinberg...
may be you mean nikon in place of canon.?
thank you shun, ian, carl
this forum is really great !!

  12.
hi friends
presently i have following f mount lenses AND flash accessories which i am using with n 80
50 mm af (N) f1.8 nikkor,70-300mm f4-5.6 AF-D-ED nikkor, AF 20 mm f 2.8 D nikkor,
sigma AF -D 170-500 mm 4-6.3 .speed light SB-28,SU-4 slave flash controller,
now i want to switch over to digital.
i like to shoot generaly anything from portrait, people, landscape , tele macro so on...
if i buy D-5000,OR D-90 which of the lenses will suitably serve?
one of my friend even advised to sell all these film gear and go to sony alpha system.
to support this he pointed out many things like sony's built in image stabilisation,
live view, prize difference, build quality, ziess lenses, made in japan label etc
any valuable opinion from your side welcome.
13.
the 8 year old coolpix 4500 was perfectly working . due to the very rude handling of my kids it began
malfunctioning now ( as the colours become flowing like reddish tones and it seems some serious
damage after numerous fallings on the floor.)
now i am insearch of a point and shoot camera which can compare or even better than coolpix 4500 in
terms of macrophotography.
i like to take the macro of very minute flowers, ants ,mustard seeds, fingerprints, spider web and so on.....
with the coolpix4500 its very easy to get very sharp macro of all those minute world.
i am looking for point shoot with the same ease for these type of purpose
no budget constraint,no pixel mania,no zoom mania
your valuable opinions please.(by the way 4500 is not at all available here in U A E used camera shops)
nazir

  14. joel...

thank you for me to thinking towards prime(actually i like the primes..but the money is the only obstacle)

ranthambore is a unique area to watch tiger but very far from my native place.there are some un official or quite uninformed places near to my village in kerala(southindia)where u can see elephant, bison, and if you are lucky the tiger and leopards also.

grass land shola forests above nelliyampathy hills, karashoori near anamalai reserve are some examples.the nilgiri tahr -a kind of wild goat- near to extinction also there in the grassland sholas..(when i was a student i had taken a snap of this rare mammal around 30 metres away .with my minolta ps).

these are all out of the list of official wild life spots .

but dense green vegetation and unique landscapes...

)(sorry for writing things unconcerned in nikon forum)

    regards.

  15. dear friends ...

i am going on vaccation to india coming june.as a serious amatuer my current longest lense is 70-300 mm.af nikkor af.D.ED.my friends told me that this one is not enough to reach birds and wild animals to achieve good close ups.i am on budget so nikkor 80-400 VR or any other nikkor IS out of question now.

is there any one have experience with this lense and how it works with N80.mainly i will use manual focus so sluggish af usually found with this type of zoon lenses does not bother me.the purple fringing at longest focal length with wide aperture also a matter i am considering.please share me your experience with this lense.is there any better option from third party manufacturers with the same price?

    thanx
