A splendid image - my favorite in your excellent folder.

Comments/critique welcomed. Thanks.

Little girl among autumn leaves. The little girl happens to be my
daughter, playing among some fallen leaves.

I looked at this photo and said to myself, "Good old Indian Railways". I really like this image, but agree with a previous poster who said that a crop to the left would enhance the image. Well done!

A very nice composition. I would have certainly walked past this fence, not looking twice at the photograph waiting to be taken. :) A little more depth of field would have added to this picture, but a wonderful effort nonetheless.

I like this photo a lot, but like another person who commented, find the person/people near the top-left a little distracting. The old cycles stacked together against an old wall instantly transports me back to India. The opportunity has been well seen, and executed, save for the little (people) distraction.

Looks like a painting. I love the subtle colors, and overall feel of this picture. This picture is successful in several aspects - composition, light, color. Wonderful picture.

Owens Valley, near Bishop, CA. Taken during a workshop with Galen
Rowell in May 2002. Critique appreciated. Thanks.

Wonderful composition, and lovely colors. Hats off for the excellent execution.

Looking East one morning at sunrise, from the Berkeley Hills, CA.

A very pleasing composition. Lovely photograph.

A simple and striking image. Love the diagonal lines in the architecture, as well as the cloud patterns.

A singular photo - a unique viewpoint combined with the sunburst effect and the silhouetted blades of grass makes this an exceltional photo. Well done!

Looks just like a print in my home, waiting to be framed. ;) But then, it isn't surprising since I bought it from you folks at the Fremont Arts Festival last weekend. :) Superb shot!

Mt. Rainier at dawn one (rare) clear morning.

When I metered the sky and the foreground, I found a 4-stop difference, but not having a 4-stop hard (which costs $160), I used a 2-stop hard and a 3-stop hard instead. During the critique sessions that were part of Galen's workshop, I mentioned this, and Galen's advice was to use a 3-stop hard with a 2-stop soft (not a hard), and adjust the soft until I achieved the 4-stop equalization between sky and foreground. Thanks for the observation. :)

Wonderfully done - can adorn the walls of any home.

Yahiya: If you mean how the foreground is light with the dark sky, it is because of the use of 2 graduated ND filters (one 2-stop hard and one 3-stop hard) with the line of the filters aligned with the top edge of the field (that is why the trees appear as silhouettes). Thanks all for your comments.

Very nice, serene feel to this picture.

Steven - thanks for the comments. I use a bubble level, and usually am quite diligent about ensuring a straight horizon, but this picture leaves me in doubt about whether the horizon just appears tilted, or whether I screwed up. Galen Rowell is an amazing guy - and for all his accomplishments he is also very down to earth and humble. I learnt more in the three days with him than I did in any other three days in my life. :)

A Galen Rowell-esque picture. Extremely well done, even more so considering it was with a point and shoot camera. Do you have the ability to control exposure with this camera? I ask because I am wondering how the camera meter was not fooled by the large amounts of snow and the white clouds. But technicalities aside, it is a terrific shot!
