Outstanding photo... but if this scene was duplicated as one of those oil-based paintings you can buy at Hotel Lobby art shows, what would be your impression of the piece?

Great perspective and subject -- excellent timing.
Shots like these though beg the question -- how many "good" photos are buried in boxes, that will be coming out of the closet to become "great" photos thru the wonders of relatively new photoshop editing tools?
Are there more of these out there that will be "re-released" over the next year, than will actually be taken over the next year?

Lovely composition and color. However the water (or is it snow-covered ice) bothers me in sense that the texture seems unnatural/gritty for water, but perhaps its frozen?

Would have liked a little more DOF

Nick, I'm in full agreement that this shot does exhibit a mastery of photographic know-how. Everything is done right in the photo.
However, I guess I meant to somewhat ask, is what your impression would be of an oil painting, well-done if you like, of the same subject, done in a somewhat photo-realistic manner that expressed the same scene?
To me, and its only my opinion (and that's what this board is for I presume), is that the subject is almost too pretty and perfect... I guess I like a little more conflict to exist, even in landscapes.
