    Lost in Space

          3

This photo is dedicated to all the brave souls we've lost since NASA

started haplessly flinging folks toward mysterious space vortexes.

Thanks, in advance, for your objective comments and insights.

    Hi Marc,

The process you described is essentially HDR, just a manual application of the technique, rather than relying on a plug-in to make your decisions.

In my opinion, the end result is independent of the process... a beautiful image is a beautiful image and I don't really care how you got there.

I personally think what you did with the aperture blades - combining your f22 exposure and your post production technique - works for this image. Yes, it's extreme, but in this context, it makes me smile.

    Best,

    James

I like the tonality of it, glad you didn't clip the texture of his hat... it's a very textured photo, so that definitely adds to it, in my opinion.

Normally, I like my verticals to be straighter, but in this case, because of the subject's opposing angle, one might consider the skewed doorways intentional, I think. I'd be interested to see it cropped from the intersection of his shirt and the left door to the far right frame maybe halfway up the lintel, so that the subject resides just a bit further up in the top third of the frame.

Keep up the good work and have fun.

She has a whimsical look and seems engaged in what she's doing, so there's definitely a story there.

The point of view could be more intimate - this feels too third-party to me. Try different perspectives, perhaps closer to the angle of the subject she's capturing, to mimic its point of view, or perhaps from more over her shoulder.

Watch your horizons - your angle to the wall makes it intersect her awkwardly, in my opinion.  Perhaps create more background separation with a more creative focus or exposure  - then the horizontal lines might appear more subtle.  Maybe incorporate more of the architecture at the top corner and less of the wall.

    Keep shooting and have fun.

I personally like the foreground wall. it gives the image a bit of context. I have a feeling if I saw this animal in front of me, I might be curious about it, but seeing it here really makes me want to give him a friendly pat on the head. He's adorable and you photo either really captures or enhances that for me. Nice work!
