Carmel, CA on the boardwalk. How is the lighting and color. Color

was not enhanced on PS, I was using Kodak Portra 160VC film.

This is good to me. Why? Because the dog was caught at just the right moment in a classic portrait that almost has human character and expression in the eyes. The catch light in both eyes makes it real. The grass might seem distracting though the dog's expression shines through it just right and the grass provides a natural crop of the 1/3 of the dog. The crop feels right on. Nice shot, taken in such a way that most would not think of. Thus it stands above many other dog shots.

Point color in desaturated photos is acceptable in some instances. The dog's tounge is unexpected enough to facilitate the color you added here. For me this works. The colorization editing is well done I might add.

Excellent portrait. This type of photo is something that all parents should be able to have of their kids instead of millions of P&S snapshots. This portrait would be worth a whole box of snapshots of her if she were my daughter.

 

Can you tell us the equipment and setup?

Great sharpness and clarity, feels real. I only ask, how? A Powershot G3, that seems like modest equipment to get this type of shot, you really have the technique down. Maybe you should write a tutorial for photo.net on insect photography. I can only image my attempts to get a shot like this with just a 4x zoom digital camera would be no where near this good. I envy you.

 

Also, normally I do not like insect photos mainly because I not much of a critter person, but this one feels sort of calm and almost cute in a way, I don't get the repulsive feeling I do with other insect photos. Perhaps it is because of the closeness of it all and especially the background blur and even lighting and smooth, even tones.

Absolutely beautiful, shocking color and detail. For the sake of curosity what equipment did you shoot this with (film or digital, if film what kind of film)?

Mesmerizing, the scale fooled me when I first looked at it, good DOF and interesting angle as the person looks really small, plays with the mind (mine at least).

Composed wide on purpose to capture the mood. Good composition?

I took this photo in a sympathetic effort trying to convey that mood. The image was composed wide with an effort not to be intrusive.

Did I underexpose this one too much or is it about right for the

side lighting effect?

I have never seen a flower quite like this with the red on yellow spots and all. Anyhow, the depth of field seems very shallow, you must have had the lens wide open, perhaps one stop down would have produced more desirable DOF although some may like the blurred fore and background.

I still consider this among the top five most incredible scenes ever captured on film by far. It truely hits home after I had a tornado hit my subdivison last Thanksgiving. Congrats on recording a masterpiece that remains in the very top of all photos in history in many people's minds!

How many pictures did you take on Sept. 20 this year? Must of filled up a ton of memory cards, hope you had a laptop handy!
