Watching the Traffic

Some toning down in Photoshop. I had the exposure compensation set at 0.0 when I should have underexposed by 1 stop because of the dark tones in the background and the bright white fur of the Beagle. However, since this is not slide film but Fuji HQ 100, I was able to easily restore the highlights. I was shooting from the car, the camera set on top of the door with the window down.

This is good to me. Why? Because the dog was caught at just the right moment in a classic portrait that almost has human character and expression in the eyes. The catch light in both eyes makes it real. The grass might seem distracting though the dog's expression shines through it just right and the grass provides a natural crop of the 1/3 of the dog. The crop feels right on. Nice shot, taken in such a way that most would not think of. Thus it stands above many other dog shots.

J. D. McGee has pretty much said everything as I would like to say about theis image.

Somehow, it has a very enduring quality to it.
