I just started shooting chromogenic film myself recently, and you have to choose the right film for your purposes. Kodak T400CN and Ilford XP2 Super both lack the backing mask necessary to make straight prints onto color paper, as they are intended for printing onto black and white paper. This is why you tend to get funny colors when you print those films onto color paper. You might be able to get your lab to adjust their machine to make the prints come out without a color problem, but that largely defeats the benefit of quick one-hour printing. If you want to have a minilab print without adjustment, try shooting on Kodak Select B&W+ or Kodak Porta B&W. On the other hand, if you want to make black and white prints yourself, DON'T shoot on those films, as they are much harder to print from because they have the colored backing that the minilab needs. T400CN and XP2 Super are both ideal for making straight black and white darkroom prints yourself.
