  1. This is a lovely picture and it also led me to your portfolio. Congratulations on all the wonderful stuff you have produced. You really do have a great sense of color, a talent I particularly admire since I am increasingly of the opinion that it's difficult to make really great photographs in color. I'm sorry to hear that your tremor stops you from doing all the drawing you would like to do, but it obviously isn't affecting your ability to make wonderful photographs! I have been inspired to attempt more color by Stephen Shore's "Uncommon Places" and your inspiring portfolio further reinforces this feeling. Thanks for sharing your work with us and best of luck.

Great shot Doug - I think that the grain actually adds to these kinds of pictures. I like to shoot with Ilford Delta 3200 sometimes and it gives a similar effect. Your picture is very atmospheric and might be less so, if it were sharp like Pan-F.

This is a great picture. The composition and the light are both wonderfully controlled and the subject matter is compelling. The picture makes me wonder where these people might be going and what they might face on their journey. The sun breaking through the clouds and the silhouettes of the soaring birds in the background also lend this image a kind of spiritual atmosphere. Congratulations Manir, this is great work!

You can almost smell the street and the damp night air. I really like this photograph's rather threatening and emotional appeal. Well done Francois.

That's the best word for this. The shiny penny really draws your eye and once you get over it, you realize that the hand against the out-of-focus background also has quite a presence. And then your eye wanders back to that penny ... I think this photo works really well. Congratulations!

The strength of the composition and the tonal variation make this photo very appealing. The range of different textures from the wood grain to the smooth plastic of the pond and the repeating pattern in the balustrade also add to it. Well done!

What an atmospheric photograph. The man in silhouette in the center of the frame looks like he's about to be eaten by the machine. The contrast between shadow and light and the steam all contribute to the overall effect. Well done!

I would like to have seen the line of the descending water composed more to the right in the frame but the expanse of wall does have some interesting reflections. I think this picture is much better than the previous person rated it.

This is a good picture but if the foreground were sharper and if the tonal variation between it and the misty sky at the top of the picture were more pronounced, this would be a great picture. It seems as if no part of the picture is truly in focus, except the hazy midground, so I'm guessing you focused/metered there, instead of on the foreground.

I really like the contrast between the sharp edges and monotone of the foreground and the hazy gray sky. I think that a little tighter foreground cropping might make the picture even stronger. This photo has a wonderful ethereal quality to it, I love it!
