Life is too short. Buy it and enjoy it while you can. If you are holding off because they may come out with a newer and improved one, you will have to wait forever. :)

Thanks for explaining that. What you said really made sense... thanks again.!

Hi
I've noticed something is really strange. When I shoot with these
lenses on films, the images taken with the 50 1.4 are sharper than
the 70-200 2.8. However, when taken with the 10D, it's the otherway
around. Images from the 70-200 are sharper than the 50 1.4. I
tested the shots with both lenses based on the same setting. I
appreciate for any comments you may have.

I can't find the answer I am looking for from the Manual, So I am
again asking for help from this wonderful site. :).
Can I set the flash output ratio between my (1)550EX (master) and the
(1) 420Ex (slave). If yes, how can I do it? THe manual only mention
setting flash ratio between slaves.
Thanks again.
Oh, and I am happy to hear that the Rebel Digital is comming out with
a very attractive price tag.. way to go Cannon.

Hi,
I know that prints from pro-labs are better than from a typical "wal-
mart" lab, but my questions is regarding the processing of the color
negatives only. Is it better to have the color negative films (pro
and consumer films) processed at the pro-labs? How is the process
different between the pro-labs vs "Wal-Mart or Costco" labs? or is it
pretty much the same process? Reasons I asked is because I only want
the negatives processed for scanning later.
I really appreciate for your replies
Kirk.

Hi, I am traveling to Las Vegas in August and interested in taking
photo of the city especially at night. Which color negative films
would you recommend that I bring with me for the trip? I am thinking
of 100 iso for daytime and 400 for nightime. I will also try the 100
iso on a tripod at night.
Which 100 and 400 iso films would you recommend especially for the
night shots? I have never shot with 800 film before. Should I try
this also? Would you prefer Fuji or Kodak?
Thanks in advance.

Thank you for the pointer, I will post this on the film & processing forum. I always get good help from the EOS forum that I feel uneasy going elsewhere..
Thanks

I think this is normal with digital cameras. Some handle longer exposure time than the other without getting that white dot. How long was it exposed?

I think the Elan7 has one of the best built in flash. Never have any problems with mine. I don't use it so often now since I bought the 550EX.

I have the same "problem", but only in the really bright situation where it is hard to see the red high light of the focused point. I think this is normal sometime the light is brighter than the focused point. You can always turn off the ECF and manually select the focus points.

Berg,
These were not scanned directly from finished prints. They were scanned from the film.

Hi,
Just wanted to make one thing clear. I do not work for Costco.. hehehe.
Scott,
They use Canon photoCD and use Fuji archive paper, both glossy and lustre finished, but I personally do not like the lustre finished. They texture is too rough for my taste. Their prints quality are ok and can not be compared with pro-lab. Oh yeah sorry to disappoint you but I am from the US. :)
Hi Jay,
Yes, they are 1.5 megapixel and like I said it is enough (for me) to send email and do web related stuff. They are just a cheap alternative to 10D and the FS4000. I think you know how long for the FS4000 to scan a roll of film and if the FARE does not clean all the dust, then some more time is spent on photoshop.
Hi Luke,
I wasn't thinking of getting a 6.3 megapixel in particular. I just wanted a digital camera with the SLR capability and it's just happen that the 10D is the best bang for the buck if not the best camera on the market for $1,499. The $300 digital P&S camera will not give me the same capabilities of an SLR therefore it is limited and I do not think the quality is the same. I don't think the quality on the lense of the $300 digital camera is as good or the same as the lenses I have.
Hi Patrick,
Yes, i just wanted some decent scans and I agree that it can not be compared to the true digital workflow and output of the DSLR. It is just a cheap alternative.
I always have my prints developed using the pro-film and pro-lab. I only use Costo to print when I know the people I give the prints to don't care and don't know about the differences to appreciate it. Just like my wife, She just can't tell the differences from the sound comming from the $30,000 audio system from a boom box. :).
I can't have the view of the attached picture from a 10D unless i have a 12.5mm lense.

Hi Hisham,
I think it's more because of the out of focus due to shallow DOF than digital noise and also I reduced the size to 800 pixel width. It was scanned from the negative. Check out the orchid scan.
Hi Robert,
They do process print from slide film. I do not know if they do scan slide film. If they do, this would be great!!!. I will ask them the next time I go there

Hi Marcus,
Sorry I did not make myself clear. The $2.79 is for the Scan to CD only. Processing and prints are $4.49. Processing and Scans are about the same (I think) or no more than $5.
Here is another picture taken on the same roll.

I forgot to mention one thing. There is no other post editing other than adding a border.
Thanks for any comments!!!

Hi all
I think I may have a solution for those who want go digital (SLR) but
do not have the up-front cash (for the DSLR, computer, softwares,
ect. ), give up the full wide angle capability or whatever reasons
keeping them from going digital.
I had the same dilemma and now happily shooting film and have them
scanned by Costo for $2.79 in one hour. This way, i have both digital
files (1500x1000 pixels)for emailing and web related stuff and
negatives if I want prints. Please see the attached picture and judge
it yourself. The color is excellent!! and all these were done in 1
hour (processed, scanned and printed). I have tried this at 2 Costco
and got the same results on the scans. They are dust free with
excellent color.
The picture is taken with Kodak Max 400 with filled flash (550EX),
50mm 1.4 at F4(I think).
Anyway, I just wanted to share what I have just discovered. Not that
I do not want to go digital, but it's too expensive now. Maybe when
the 1Ds are around $2000, then I may consider it.

Hi,
I have done the search but can't find the answer. Can DSLR cameras
handle long exposure (few hours)? I have seen pictures of the night
sky taken with film and I am wondering if DSLRs can do the same. I
heard that digital cameras can't handle long exposure due to
limitation of the CCD or CMOS. Is this true? How long can it be
exposed without degrading picture quality too much? I am talking
about night photography, long exposure, no flash.
Thanks

I have seen 4"x6" prints captured at max resolution from the nikon D100 (comparable to the eos 10d) printed from a $100K plus printer and was very disappointed with the results. The prints were much better than prints from the Cannon S9000 but still were not good enough in comparison to the prints from negatives. Closed-up prints look ok, but those that were taken from far away do not have the fine details like prints from negatives.
Digital is good for many other things, but I think if you want prints, you better stick with prints from negatives. I have not seen prints from the D1s so I don't know how it would turn out.

EF 17-40mm f/4L USM Wide-Angle Zoom Lens
The EF 17-40mm f/4L USM is an ultra wide-angle zoom lens that is being announced simultaneously with the EOS 10D, but is compatible with all Canon cameras that use the company's proprietary EF lens mount. The new lens was developed as a more affordable alternative to the renowned EF 16-35mm f/2.8L USM lens that has become a mainstay for professional photographers around the world. Featuring 3 aspherical surfaces and 1 UD glass element in a 13-element optical formula, the new 17-40mm lens delivers image quality equal to the 16-35mm lens. Like other current L-series models, the new 17-40mm lens is also built to professional standards in terms of build quality, with a metallic lens barrel and extensive gasketing for superb weather resistance. It will be available at authorized retailers in May with a suggested list price of $1,200.

I have the 7E and the 50/1.4 and I love it. Get the 1.4, it is more expensive than the 1.8 but its built and performance is excellent. Can't tell you about the 100-400 cause I do not have it.
Digital Rebel or 10D???
