Both are great lenses. You would be happy with either one for portraits.

I like all of the common medium format cameras. Great deals can be found with the digital market exploding. Worry more about good lighting conditions when taking the photos and less about the specific brand of camera.

My sb-28 is now nonfunctioning (again). It is out of warranty and
I'm looking at the Quantum t2 for mostly b/w portraits with my F5.
Any experience w/ this flash and Nikons? Thanks

The F100 with the mb15 makes autofocusing slightly faster. I like the vertical shutter release mainly and better handling with the mb15 attached. I love my F5 but the red focusing zones on the F100 really make it a super deal. Alot of F5s are showing up used and in great condition because of the digital influx.

I use the F5 and F100 w/ the 80-200 2.8 (non silent wave). Both are equally as fast. Fresh batteries and the choice of focusing modes seem to make more of a difference. I tried the silent wave model and wasn't impressed with the increase in focusing speed but it sure was smooth.

Because seeing a print develop under the glow of the orange light is as cool now as it was in my middle school's tiny darkroom nearly 25 years ago.

I'm interested in upgrading my flash for mostly fill-flash
applications from a sb-28 which is non-TTL with my mamiya 645 pro
tl. Is the Quantum t2 worth the extra bucks over, say, the metz
54mz3? Mostly B/W fiber-base warmtone portraits from my darkroom
are the end products and some wedding work in both B/W and color.
I've never used a parabolic flash so this is new territory for me so
any suggestions would be appreciated.

I currently use a Nikon F100 and Mamiya 645 Pro for mostly outdoor
photography of kids and families. Recently, I've been having more
trouble focusing the Mamiya quickly and accurately for the action
shots (blame it on tired eyes). I use Mamiya's 2.8 lenses and a
Maxwell screen but I'm wondering about maybe moving into an
autofocusing MF system (maybe the Pentax 645n). How does this 645 AF
system compare to the great and quick AF system of the F100 in terms
of speed, etc. Or is it best to stick with the manual 645 and use
the F100 for the action shots;however, I really like the bigger
negative when I'm in the darkroom. Thanks

I just bought a Maxwell screen for my Mamiya 645 Pro. Great but some blacking out in the microprism with my f3.8 to 4.5 lenses but the rest of the matte screen is so bright that focusing is still much faster. With my 2.8 lenses, the Maxwell really shines

I find the 645 pro easier to focus than some of the earlier mamiyas but I try not to compare it to my Nikon f100 for speed. The interchangable backs are great, esp. if you are shooting both color and B/W. Also, everyone seems to be dumping the 645 pros and TLs for the digital cameras and the AFD model so the prices on used bodies and backs are lower now.

Rather than save my dimes for a new Mamiya 105-210mm ULD, I've
ordered a near mint older style non-ULD version. I shoot mainly B/W.
I understand that this lens is quite heavy but I've spent the past
year carrying my one-year old son around so the heft shouldn't
bother me. Thanks in advance for any opinions.

Sorry about the lack of details. It would be for a mamiya 645. Thanks.

I'm currently using a 150mm 2.8 (for natural/low light) and 150mm
leaf shutter (for fill flash)for outdoor portraits. I've seen a
number of 145mm soft focus lenses on the used market and I'm
wondering if anyone has had any experience with it? Is it similiar
to the Nikkor 105mm Defocus control lens?
-
Is there any difference between the Mamiya Pro and Super backs? I
notice some have blue tabs and others have red tabs on the darkslide.
Thanks

Has anyone tried the new Quantum T2D? It has a couple of new neat features in Auto mode.
-
Thanks for all the great comments. Looks like the T2 is the way to go but I'll check on the 120J. I had defective Sunpak a few years ago but I'll take another look before leaping into the Quantum. I use the Stroboframe Press-T for my current flash. Not perfect but it gets the job done.

I have a Mamiya 645 pro (no TTL) and have been using a nikon sb-28
borrowed from my F100 in Auto mode for mostly outdoor fill flash,
with some indoor event photo shoots on the horizon. My question: Is
getting the Quantum T2 flash overkill if I can't use it in TTL
mode? I shoot B/W mostly and develop the prints myself in the old
fashion darkroom. Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks.
