  1. Hi does anyone has experience with this zoom lense from sigma.. I m

not very keen on buying non-canon lenses, but I am getting a vey low

quote for this used lens (around USD500).. I m getting tempted to get

this lens as I know I would never be able to afford a canon zoom or

prime reaching 500mm. How does this lens perform. I currently have

    50mm 1.8, 28-135IS, 20mm 2.8, 70-200mm 2.8.. thanks in advance..

  2. I have been looking for upgrade myself and looking for EOS 3 or EOS 1V. Had a chance to hold a 1V HS in a camera store and it feels great to hold it.. probably featurewise its more or less similar to 3. You could check NK Guy's review http://photonotes.org/reviews/1-1N-3-1V/ for a camparison.. Just as mentioned by Daniel, the price is damn high.. Even a used one in singapore costs around SGD 2800 ( around 1600 US), something I cannot afford right now..
  3. Hi, I am looking for a good heavy duty tripod.. I am looking at

Manfrotto Art 190PRO (US Art 3001PRO)with a central column for

overhead pictures.. I am looking at ball heads specially

    (1) Bogen -3055 Heavy Duty Double Action Ballhead with Independent

    Panning Lock (Quick Release) or

(2)Bogen 3265 Grip Action Ballhead (Quick Release).

the grip action looks good but supports only upto 2.9 Kgs, which

might be less if I am using long lenses (specially 70-200 IS or 300/4

IS).. Any other recommendation are appreciated..

    thanks in advance

  4. Hi, thanks to all ur responses for my question for EOS upgrade..

Interestingly I learned from responses that EOS 5 provides DOS

preview via CF 11 (custom Function).. After reading the responses I

tried back at home.. Somehow it seems it doesn't work.. When I press

the AE lock button (DOF button via CF 11), just the central AF point

lights up (red border) and there is no difference in the composed

imagre on viewfinder... Could you help me on this.. What should I

expect to see when I compose a image and then use DOF preview

    button..

  5. thanks guys.. I am quite convinced that at that price EOS 3 is a good deal and I wont be able to appreciate EOS 3 until I use it.. I probably will do some testing, maybe loan it from my friend and fire a few rolls before I buy it..

As for Lenses, I have been using EF 20 f/2.8, 50 f/1.8, 28-105 USM II, 28-135 IS (has made 28-105 redundant).. this summer planning to buy 70-200 f/2.8 L IS (have been saving for that lense for quite sometime)... I did use some sigma zoomz before but after I bought 28-135 IS I completely stopped using third party stuff..

  6. Hi .. I have been using an EOS 5 QD for a few years and am very happy

with it.. Recently a friend of mine has offered to sell his bakup EOS

    3 unit for around 1500SGD (~800 with PB-E2).. I would like your

honest advise if its worth upgrading to EOS 3 at that price.. What

pushes me back is the absence of in-built flash.. I dont usually do a

lot of flash photography and an in-built flash comes very handy for

    occassional flash requirements..

With an EOS 3 I will have to carry a flash unit all the times.. On

the other hand if I summarise the advantages of EOS 3 they would be

    (1) wide angle ECF as opposed to 5 point ECF. (2) E-TTL support. (3)

DOF button, thats very handy for an amateur like me. (4) newr body

still supported by Canon while EOS 5 is discontinued..

So guys.. could u please advise me if its worth going for it which

otherwise I could spend the money to upgrade my arsenal of lenses :-))

thanks a lot for your help

  7. Hi.. I am looking forward to upgrade my flash unit to 420 EX.. Does

EOS 5 support 420EX.. What I got from some of the reviews that 420 EX

does not support A-TTL and EOS 5 doesn't support E-TTL.. Any comments

    suggestions are appreciated..

  8. Hi Jamie, I am also in the same league as you.. but after searching and good advice from Isac and puppy face, I think a good set would be as follows

    1. a wide angle prime 20mm or 24 mm

    2. a versatile general purpose zoom 28-135mm IS (particular if you travel a lot and cannot carry too many lenses every time)

    3. 50mm f/1.8 II (or f/1.4 if u can afford)

    4. a telezoom 70-200mm (f/4L or f/2.8L or F/2.8L IS) depending on ur price range. I am going in for F/4L which is a gem for the cost and weight compared to its cousins

    5. an extender 1.4X or 2X will give u effective 300mm so u dont really need a 100-300 or 75-300 zooms..

Thats what I am working on now.. except for the wide angle prime I have made up my mind for the rest of the set..

hope that helps.. happy shooting.. Anoop

  9. Hi just wanted to know if someone has experience with Cosina 19-35 mm

wide angle zoom lens.. Howz the quality (build and picture quality)

compared to Canon EF 20mm F/2.8 prime.. I am getting the used cosina

for a very cheap price (<100) but am not sure if I should go with

that or should stick to Canon and buy the prime (a new one will cost

me around SGD 800, unfortunately used market is not good is

singapore) .. I would like to look at Canon 16-35mm L zoom but thats

way beyond my pocket.. Any other recommendation for a wide angle

    prime or zoom is welcome..

    thanks in advance

  10. the 300mm f4 IS is a second generation IS lense and is not tripod compatible.. You should switch it off while using on the tripod... the third generation IS lenses like 70-200 F/2.8 IS do provide IS even while using the tripod..
  11. Hi.. I am getting a used 300mm F/4L IS USM for SGD1800 (nearly 1,100

USD).. But before buying that I would like to know how useful is IS

for a 300mm F/4L lens that is around 1.2kg in weight.. At that weight

I dont think its possible to handhold that lens and If I am going to

use such a lense only on a tripod, whats the benefit of IS..

At the same time, I would also like to know if IS Lenses can be used

with EF extenders.. Will the IS feature still be available if I stack

up a IS lens on a EF 2X II extender..

    thanks in advance

  12. Reading the great reviews for EF70-200 F/4L on this forum, I m

planning to get one. Just wanted to check if this lense is compatible

with Canon ED MC II extenders and whats the shortfall of using an

    extender with it.

I am quoting one of my friends who said "advantage of having the 2.8

is that you are able to use the extender 1.4X or 2X if you need it in

the future. You can't really use it on the f4 version unless you

    don't mind using manual focusing"

Does that mean that the extenders cannot be used for auto focussing?

    thanks in advance

  13. I am a novice in SLR world.. Having played around with my 30-80mm EOS

lense with my Canon EOS kit, I am planning to buy bigger lenses.. I

am a little confused as to whether to buy a Telephoto Lense or a Zoom

    Lense..

    1. Could someone help me in explaining the difference between these

two - telephotot and Zoom lenses? I am basically looking at EF 300mm

f/2.8L IS USM or EF 75-300mm f/4-5.6 IS USM. It would be great if

someone has done the comparison of these two lenses before.

    2. Also if some Canon experts are around, could they help me in

explaing the main difference between the following types of lenses

    a. EF 75-300mm f/4-5.6 IS USM

    b. EF 75-300mm f/4-5.6 III USM

    c. EF 80-200mm f/4.5-5.6 II

    d. EF 100-300mm f/5.6L

I am confused with the terms IS (probably image stabiliser), III, II

    and L.

thanks a lot and happy holidays.
