After 3 dawn rises to try and capture this composition with warm light
flooding into the valley from the east I was finally rewarded. I didn't
expect the light to travel so nively up the valley and catch all the rocks-a
pleasing bonus. I decided to opbscure the sky to concentrate on the
action here and I hope this has worked. Comments welcome.

This was an interesting location-very busy, lots of people hassling me for
setting up a tripod (some things don't change!) and rapidly changing light. I
opted to emphasise the movement of the people filling the night market
and dedicate a large portion of the shot to the sunset.
I'm interested to know what people think.

Hi Paolo, This looks like a great location and you've timed your visit well-which is a key skill for all successful landscapes.
I really like the way you have caught the sunlight on the rocks-this is hard to do and you've done it very well-it really lifts the rock from being a dark patch in the picture.
I think you could go back and really work this location harder though. It has all the right ingredients-a setting sun, lovely textured rock, gushing waves but these aren't tight enough for me. I wish I could post an example of what I think you could do here so I will put one in my gallery when I get more space! But, I like that breaking wave in the middle of the frame and I would like to have been brought closer to that, having it pouring off the pictre and onto my lap. With the setting sun at the top of the frame I think this would have been a more compacvt shot with even more impact.
Have you got any others we can see from this location?

This is good, but yes, i think it is almost just another sunset. One of the many things i have learnt from Joe Cornish is to really use something to dominate the foreground, he uses rocks like those in the centre of your image and it transforms photos like this into works of art. This is 75% there, just get closer and cut the boring sand out.

Let me know what you think.

A common idea, but oh so hard to achieve, unlike you have here! I love this, I would only allow the stars to leave longer trails...but it's personal.

Good shot, clever and interesting, it makes me linger on it: a rare quality in photographs. thanks also for the advice on my pics.

Couldn't agree with you more, it's originality is virtually zero in my opinion, but the colours and light at this moment in time are a rarity and set it apart.

As far as butterfly shots go, this isn't original. In the context of the storm that preceeded it, however, I doubt there are many other pictures of such tranquility, thus I think you have something special here.

I think you have something special here, a real image of serenity, just need to be ruthless with the cropping.

Great viewpoint, you must have a good eye for these things! Without the sun itself, however low in the sky, the shot is too dark, but well composed. Al Hare

I knew this was unoriginal when I took it, all I wanted was a striking tropical sunset shot of my own. Let me know what you think, Alex Hare.

Very clever, very original.

This is a great shot. Normally i would say this is almost as unoriginal as palm trees at sunset, however well executed the shot is. However, as this sunrise so rarely happens I think you have caught something special here.

Thanks everyone, yes, it has come out very (over)saturated-more than it was post processing and on my screen. Good lesson learnt in how colours appear!
