1.
Second shoot was a concert last night in the 'Landbouwbelang' a former agricultural warehouse, very low light conditions.

 2.
I've now done about 10.000 shots on my K5II after maybe a ton on both my K20's. Comparing with the K20 it's an improvement, especially in low light conditions. But not all changes are to my liking. Your point 4, the mode dial lock, I don't like it. I want to be able to change very fast when the shoot gives a reason for it. Same for the focus point, on the K20 I could change that a lot easier. Missing on both the K20 and the K5II is a programmable button. I could do with no live view button but a button for changing the focal lenght if you use old MF lenses would be very handy. Now you have to dig deep in the menu. An improvement was omitting the stabilisation switch. On the K20 it's all too easy to change that accidentally. Now you have to go into the menu to change it.

 3.
I haven't been posting for a while here. This week I did two completely different shoots. First one was wednesday, the 5th stage of the Tour de France. Conditions were a bit iffy, windy, cold and wet. So a lot of short range shooting, mainly with a K5II and a Tamron 2.8/17-50.

 4.
My only 'problem' with the 2.5/135 is that it's sometimes too sharp. It's one of my most favourite lenses. I don't have the 3.5/135 Jupiter but I've used the 2.0/85 Jupiter 9 quite often. It's a complete contrat to the 2.5/135 Takumar. The Jupiter 9 is quite soft and a superb portrait lens, the 2.5/135 Takumar is on the complete other end of the sharpness range, sometimes too sharp.

 5.
It looks like I'm shooting sports in a completely different manner. Most important thing is access. Either you get that through the right documentation or knowing the right people. Having (grand)kids playing helps a great deal. You have the old experience of using manual focus lenses. Use that old experience. It depends a bit on the sport if MF lenses are a disadvantage or not. For speedskating I absolutely prefer MF lenses, there have been venues where my results were better than the pro results, simply because my kit was lighter (MF mirror lenses) so I could constantly adapt my position while the pro's with their huge lenses couldn't. Expensive kit will never compensate for sloppy positioning.

 6.
Big horking electronic flash with a TLR or rangefinder. With a narrow beam reflector, f11 at 50 ft with Tri-X, way back in the 60's :)

The old Metz ones ;).
The bigger your flash, the better your access, you looked pro not by having a white lense but by having a huge Metz flash next to your camera. I did some speedskating photography in the old days, what I remember most is indeed pre-focussing and taking a lot less risks with your shots. So nearlyonly overview shots and hardly any close-ups.

 7.
I shoot quite often in dimly lit clubs and similar places. In fact, I did some concert shooting at 3200ASA and higher last friday. My preferd choice for this sort of job are old manual focus lenses. These clubs are too dimly lit to rely on your AF. Especially if you use a fast lens wide-open. The lenses I use most often during concert shooting are the Zenitar 2.8/15, the Takumar M2.0/35, Pentax 1.7/50 (both A and FA), Jupiter J9 and Takumar 2.5/135. Most of them are available for around 100 Euro/piece, the A 1.7/50 for a lot less. M lenses I use in club settings in Tav or another semi-automatic setting. After all you have 2 stops you can correct so if you close the diafragm 1 or 2 stops you simply correct for that amount and have automatic light metering wide open.

 8.
Cyclocross for me this weekend, the first race of the Gazet van Antwerpen Trophee at the Citadel of Namur.

 9.
It'll depend a bit on the sort of course for the cyclocross and the spot where you'll be standing if it's going to be extreme or not. I don't know yet if I have the time to shoot some cyclecross tomorrow (GvA Trophy in Namur) but that course will offer lot's of chances for extreme shooting.
Try these sort of shots for the extreme feel:

The entire urban area of Brussels was carfree on sunday, roads blocked at the entrance of town for cars, but free reign for cyclists.

 11.
When I was comparing the K20D and the K7D at the shop I checked the manual, discussed the matter with the salesman (one of the best in the region) and we coudln't find a way around it. It wasn't the only reason to choose the K20D though, there were a number of other reasons, including a few financial ones (a.o. the need to buy new batteries). To put it frankly, I didn't see enough gains in buying the K7D in stead of the K20D to to compensate for the about 400 Euro higher price (price difference + batteries). Besides, I was (and am) entirely satisfied about the K20D.

 12.
Last month I had the choice between buying another K20D and the K7D. I settled for the K20D. One of my main reasons was that I need to confirm the choice of another focussing point in the K7D while with the K20D I can select it with one button, without even taking the camera of my eye. A non-argument for those only using the centre point, I know. But I change the focussing pint very often, especially when shooting sports and concerts.

 13.
How about the stabiliser? Nikon forces you to buy expensive lenses since the stabiliser is not in the body itself, unlike Pentax. And the usual problem with using M42 lenses for Nikonians is still there, another advantage for Pentax. Just to name two without even checking the Nikon D7000s specs.

 14.
The two versions of Matt's sanddunes photo give a completely different emphasis. The original one is more about sanddunes, the cropped version about someone doing yoga in a remote place. I prefer the original one.

 15.
Some very nice prespectives from Nick, both the rings and the trees. Haig's streetartist seems to point you far away along the street.
Again some concertwork from me, a small band performing on a small stage during the opening of the cultural season

K20D with Takumar 2.5/135 (first photo) and FA 1.7/50 (other photos).

 16.
No intentions of jumping ship here. In fact, I just bought a new body. I doubted between the K7D and the K20D and finally settled for the K20D. Especially because the controls of the K20D are much better placed and faster as the ones on the K7D. When I look at the pictures of the K-r, I see a missed chance. I'd have liked to see the internal specs of the K-r combined with the body of the K20D, especially the lay out and functioning of the controls. Much faster to change settings on the K20D as on the K7D.
The 2.4/35 looks interesting, the price will be decisive if I'll buy it. A 2.0-2.8-ish 28mm would be my first choice though, my old Fa 2.8/28 is slowly showing the marks of my style of using it. (Tossing it in a bicycle barbag during all sorts of weather.)

 17.
Having spent all week processing the photo's of a festival in Southern France (so hardly any internetting during that week). Some picks:
