  1. Hmmm, I agree with Eric on the legal and moral question,

    I also think /know

that there is no difference between amateur or professional output,

the same `laws` apply to all.

But I thought this had all been discussed and agreed on

    already...simplest rule is that

people specifically ask for, or offer,

help, rather than just going ahead with changes, I mean.

    regards,

  2. Well, I consider it 'editorial' ...so I think the original poster should get some credit for the theme... also, while the forum credits are understandable, they also reinforce the idea of separate communities, which I think won't help the No Words forum to develop as a forum/community in its own right, but rather as an general archive of N/W's threads generally speaking.
  3. The price I mentioned is low, but to ask more would mean getting into a legal battle , which remains an option - that's up to the photographer.

They managed to find Tim's beautiful image, now they must find the money to pay for it. Seems clear enough to me.

  4. ... a way of reminding myself too :)

An art director gave me this advice when I was setting out on my very first assignment, and no-one has ever repeated it to me, but I always remember it. A bit of structure helps.Another thing, colour is far more valuable than black and white - costs of printing don't really enter in to it in my experience. I might use black and white to contrast the scene, but rarely for the whole story - they prefer to see the world in colour:)

Where I live, I know several publications who would be interested in what you shoot, Alex.

  5. The first shot is stark, and shocking...a monthly would publish it double page (as an opener), to illustrate an article about suicide...the second shot would be an insert, continuing the theme on another page...and then what ? The other shots are too similar, two shots aren't enough to carry a story really.

The third photo, half/full page perhaps on the left , could show the passage of the plunge...in a dramatic way I mean... perhaps even in black and white, wide angle... ( you could go back and shoot this if you haven't already got an emotional image of this... )

Preferably you need at least three images of the scene, plus one to contrast the situation, an interior for example.

A weekly would give it a page at most, and would probably need something more 'grabby' - one shot is enough-

generally speaking, something less 'sensitive'...and a newspaper would want the image of the body.

I hope this helps : I admire your work, and I'm just trying to think this through the way a 'real' photo-editor might, based on my experience of shooting for magazines.

  6. It doesn't take much to have a general grasp of the aesthetics of photography... it's a little discouraging to have hit- and- run raters,

who evidently have strong feelings about your work, but not the guts to verbalize their thoughts. (But on the other hand, in this free- for- all it is also possible to meet likeminded people, so I guess we have to take the good with the bad.)

So the site's purpose is served, but there are few contributions to any discussion in this way - but again, viewers are browsing to look at images, not to read photographic discussions, so that probably suits the site's purpose too.

  7. Dermablend foundation is waterproof...and cream based blusher, eyepencil, and lipstick should be fine too. Mascara, I don't know which to recommend in particular,waterproof... but at the worst - apply that first, splash with water and remove the excess, some of which will end up smudged under her eyes - and then get on with the rest. What powder does, apart from cutting down on shine, is it set's the makeup, without powder you'll need to watch that it doesn't get smudged around, during changes etc.
