1.
Canon EOS mount is the same way. From what I understand Tamron pays mount royalty fee to Canon on every Tamron Eos mount lens they make. Instead Sigma reverse engineers, bootlegs the EOS mount & electronics. Due to this common to find info I've never bought any Sigma lens for EOS and for that matter I've never bought any Nikon mount Sigma lens. I think Sigma plays well with Nikon, but I don't bother with Sigma.
If you love Pentax then use Pentax made glass or Tamron assuming Tamron is good to use ?
I've got a FA type 14mm Tamron 2.8 & would be sad if its incompatible with K-1.
I'm still enjoying the K-1 hands on owner impressions I've been reading elsewhere.
Lindy

 2.
Didn't Hoya Pentax release a TIPA special edition crop sensor DSLR ?

I wonder if Ricoh will release a TIPA K-1 camera to commemorate their newest recognition ?

I remain happy that K Mount will have a full frame sensor option.
I wish K-1 had built in flash like my D700 have. That said I wish my 5DII had built in flash too.
Back in the day I got the 5DII pair at $300 a piece less than 1,799 from B&H.

At $1,500 admission I'd be a fool not to buy a K-1.

I'll wait and read the hands on K-1 reviews including the state of service in USA market in 2015 & 2016.
Using my 300mm 2.8 Adaptall II & Pentax' 1.7x manual lens to autofocus function teleconverter would be my #1 reason to buy K-1 due to it's in camera image stabilization.

I've got the non stabilized super wides & most everything else I care to afford covered with Canikon' s in lens stabilization.
Lindy

 3.
Wow !
I stop by here about once a year.
This blows my mind, a full frame k mount available for just $1800.
I'm going to dig out my K Mount gear that I didn't sell off to see if its worth $1,800 to me.

Congrats to K Mount owners !!!

The lack of 24x36 K Dslr made me move away. Instead I gleefully bought into Canon & then Nikon 24x36 years ago.

Lindy

 4.
Seeing as I kept about half of my K Mount glass system when I went full frame elsewheres I'd be a fool to pass up a $599 K-5II with all my Pentax& Pentax mount full frame glass inhand.

What's my minty K20D worth, maybe $300 or so if I sell it off? This amazing K-5II upgrade for me is maybe $300 if I loose the K20D. Unlike many internet chit chatters I actually really like my K20D in daylight. It sucks in darkness or dusk or dawn as most Pentax cameras do compared to my 5DII or D700 both of which coincidentally date back to a 2008 launch. Going on 6 years ago.

Pentax K-3 supposedly offers up a nite time shooter available for K Mount owners in late 2013.
I'm not willing to drop $1300 to find out.

I cannot imagine why any Pentaxian would pass on this killer B&H $599 K-5II deal !!!

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/891517-REG/Pentax_12016_K_5_II_Digital_SLR.html

 5.
I bought a brand new K-5II for $599 at B&H today.

Heck of a Great Deal & from my favorite online camera shop !!!

My first aps-c croppy sensor camera purchase since I bought a Pentax K20D five years ago during that one's:
Going Going Gone 1/2 price B&H Thanksgiving Sale.

I've read so many good things about K-5II.

$599 admission price has got to be the best bang for the buck aps-c dslr in all of 2013 !!!

;^)

 6.
Oh well, the Nikon Df full frame is $2747 at launch. Too much $ for me.
This is Nikon's 6th full frame in their current lineup !!!
D3X, D4, D800E, D800, D610 & Df Retro.
Nikon Full frames now out number their aps-c dslr line up.

Nikon full frame offers also out number current Canon full frames & Sony full frames & Leica full frames.

So for me, K-3 gets elevated back to my top two choices, it's K-3 versus Canon 70D or neither.
I sure like the idea of having an 70D articulated viewscreen dslr & built in wifi & mfa adjustments for glass, 60D lacked this.

I don't need another dslr camera so I can wait for the Holiday Specials to decide.

 7.
After my post about K-5II/IIs pricing the two dslrs went back up to full price at B&H.
Maybe K-5II/IIs inventories are already low ?
At the same time Canon 70D dropped $100, making it the same price as K-5II or $200 less than K-3.
I'm still leaning towards getting a 70D just for the articulated viewscreen feature.

I wish K-3 had offered an articulated screen, then I'd already own one & it would compliment my K20D.
K20D is the last Pentax item I bought new way back in 2008.

Ricoh rumors say 24x36 Full Frame K Mount is due to announce at September 2014 Photokina.
10 months to go & then we'll know if Pentax full frame is better than Pentax aps-c or not.

I'm guessing we'll see $1500 Canon 6D & Nikon D610 full frame pricing in next few weeks.
This happened during 2012 Christmas Season w/ Canon 5D Mark II & Nikon D600 selling for $1500 brand new.
I got my two 5D Mark II at $1500 each brand new during last year's Holiday specials.

 8.
Maybe Pentax will offer up 24x36 Dslr in 2014 & put these silly debates to rest.
I've decided to happily hold onto my full frame Pentax lenses as I've seen promise in Ricoh~Land.
The Dark Days of Hoya are fading from my memories...
Maybe 2014, maybe 2016? I'm fine with waiting till Pentax joins the full frame party.
In the meantime, Nikon Df intrigues me as does Canon 70D.
Nikon Df could be a handy addition to my lovely pair of D700.
Canon 70D reminds me I have no articulated viewscreen camera & it offers up a handy touch screen interface too !!!
Had K-3 offered this aticulated option I'd have a K-3 already.
I leaning towards the 70D, though I've never owned a croppy sensor Canon, just full frames.
I never thought I'd buy another smaller viewfinder dslr again, so we'll see.
;^)

B&H has had K-3 instock for a few days now:

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1007545-REG/pentax_15530_k_3_dslr_camera.html

I wonder what kind of K-3 Holiday Deals will pop up ???
I'd guess K-3 put a damper on K-5II & K-5IIs sales.

Which I'll guess makes the K-5II & K-5IIs the Best Dslr Deals to watch for this Holiday Season !

We are in the 26 Day countdown till Turkey Day Deals of 2013 are but a sweet memory.

Happy Shopping !!!

Lindy

 9.
Gear Porn threads are fun to peek in on, I hope the thread continues.

Here's an item I bought last year after reading Maxis Gamez' review of Skimmer II:

http://www.naturescapes.net/docs/index.php/articles/432

Prior to my purchase I thought $99 was to much to pay for the frisbee~like camera & head support. After getting my hands on Skimmer II, I think right around Black Friday 2010, it's become one of my favorite items!!!
I use two, one for me, one for the wife & sometimes think I need a third one just to keep mint for the display cabinet.

Wimberley WH-200 Gimbal Head with a couple of their Riser blocks stacked makes for an amazing set up. I've loaded 300/2.8, D700, WH-200 on Skimmer II and its a joy to use.

http://www.tripodhead.com/products/wimberley-main.cfm

I find Skimmer II a perfect pairing with Really Right Stuff BH-55 PCL panning head & a couple Riser Blocks. I tried one Riser, decided two work better. This combo is Amazing for low angle perspective images using 14-24mm Nikon lens and this is my most frequent pairing:

http://reallyrightstuff.com/ProductDesc.aspx?code=BH-55-PCL&type=3&eq=&desc=BH-55-PCL%3a-Full-sized-ballhead-with-PCL&key=it

I hand it to you Yvon, I've never considered shooting on image off a rural mail box and your item seems perfect for this opportunity, though a simple bean bag is equally effective. Over the years, well a couple decades now I've acquired a couple Linhof Medium Format weight rated tree spike/bench clamp camera mounts. Lovely stainless & grey paint, oozing with 1950's West German Quality. I've spiked trees & fence posts with it. I can mount my BH-55 PCL ball head/panning plate combo on the tree spike too ! Awsome item, bought one early on, 20 years ago locally, then took 15 years to get another. Doubt one can fly thesedays with it's concealed 3" stainless spike, hidden inside it though.

I'll add,

The Leitz image posted above holding the large format camera is ALSO a sweet piece of kit. I've used mine, earlier Leitz version, with 300/2.8 D700, likely a 8 pound combo, though I find Gimbal Head is more fun to use with this pair because Wimberley makes large & heavy glass effortless to use.

 10.
My May 1971 FD System Dealer Price sheets say:

F-1 Body $240 Wholesale & $369 Retail

w/FD 50mm f1.8 $293 & $450

w/ FD 50mm f1.4 $325 & $500

w/FD 55mm f1.2 $375 & $575

Nice collection of Canon FD & EOS

You made me dig out my remaining FD kit, many fun memories !

 11.
Hey Doug,

Somebody out there on the internet removes Nikon mount & installs K mount for a fee.

Don't recall who's doing this for a fee, but it is happening. The two brands have almost identical film plane distance so its not seriously complicated.

If you instead got a D7000 at somepoint, then you'd have a native mount camera to use Nikon supertele glass. Older desireable Nikon glass is increasing in value, so if you wait a couple years this may cost you more coin. Plus, Nikon flash system tops everyone else.
It is a joy to use old Nikon glass on my D700.
I can log in up to 9 lenses and idiot light for focus works perfect and I capture full metadata.

Two of my used Nikon lenses bought in last 3 years have gone up $2,500 since I bought them, thus making my brand new D700 full frame *free*, that is, if I were to buy the same two lenses and D700 again today.

With the US Dollar valued at 79.21 Yen, I'd say the next couple years we in USA are in for Camera Gear sticker shock.

Here's a Nikon mount goodie I passed on brand new for $700 & now like new "used" its $2,475 & still getting bids:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=290585819046&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT

At $3900 I am surprised this FA 300mm 2.8 is still available.
Ian is a fantastic seller, my personal experience:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=230649052728&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT

 12.
Its $15,100 using straight Yen to US Dollars conversion.

Just a $5,000 + premium for this this Red Lacquer Limited Edition.

$5,000 is also the additional cost of the upcoming 25mm 645D lens:

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/755829-REG/Pentax_26360_Pentax_D_FA_645.html

I wonder, will Ricoh-Pentax USA bring in a few for the US market ?

 13.
Problem is, Pentax themselves officially announced Full Frame 10 years 4 months ago.

I agree, we'll never see a full frame K Mount but Pentax did actually announce it & tour imaging shows with it.
Had FF-K become a reality then Pentax would have beat out Canon & Sony & Nikon & Leica.

Pentax Full Frame February 10th 2001 announcement:

http://www.dpreview.com/news/0102/01021106pentaxdigitalslr.asp

Instead, Pentax beat out everyone else in offering a Q P&S.

While the Q is not for me or the wife, she loves her handy iphone images,
I do find it amazing Pentax will offer a credit card sized interchangeable lens camera.
That's praiseworthy whether I buy one or not.

 14.
Everything I've read shows the 645D is fantastic. The high rez image of SanFransico I saw months ago was insane. Details, details...

I suspect a 24x36 K Mount would also be fantastic, something I'd actually consider along with D800 & 5D III.
I still have most of my Pentax gear incase the full frame K Mount gets made & sold soon.
K-5 looks great, still none to handle locally, so no hands~on testdrive with my glass inhand for me to see what's up.

The K-5 owners seem to really dig it.

Its looks to be The Best K Mount Dslr Pentax has ever made.

Too bad for me Pentax won't cram a 24x36 Sony Sensor into a K-5 sized & spec'd Dslr & offer for sale by let's say:

Dec 1st 2011.

 15.
Weird, my D700 from 2008 is included in your link of This Best of 2010 DxO list.

Its 2011 and I've been using D700 full frame with Nikon made glass the past year. I parked all my Canon gear, though wife still uses it, I am waiting to see who blows my mind, Canon's 5D III or Nikon's D800. I'd like to trim down to one brand of kit but with the ongoing disaster in Japan I suspect I'm another year or two away from Canon and Nikon's next wave of affordable full frame cameras.

Stain free Pentax K-5 from the current serial number series 4xxxxxxxx sure looks sweet, a great choice for those who want a high end crop format dslr to drive their Pentax mount glass.
Pentax seems perfectly fine offering a $1,400 K-5 & $10,000 645D with zero Pentax choices in between.

What if one wants to drop just $2,500 on 24x36 D700, for more sensor real estate ?
Pentax owners then shop elsewhere or spend 4x the money ;^O

Silver K-5 at full list price sure sold out quick, huh ?

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/755619-REG/Pentax_14898_K_5_Limited_Edition_Digital.html

When are you going to buy your 6 month old technology Pentax K-5 Justin ?

I have to say the D700 from 3 years ago technology remains a fantastic camera!
Paired with my Nikon Japan 14-24mm 2.8 I am hard pressed to consider buying another camera from either Canon or Pentax.

One day Canon will respond to Nikon's 2008 D700 & I suspect the following month Nikon will then respond as well.

 16.
Pentax dslrs prices don't drop by 40% like they did with cameras like our Pentax K20D. I paid $689, after the bonus $100 B&H gift card was figured in, for a $1,299 K20D. This was predictable and a great price to get one at.

I suspect its the poor US Dollar to Yen exchange rate causing this, even though nothing Pentax manufactures comes from Japan thesedays, Hoya HQ remains in Japan for now.

http://www.bloomberg.com/markets/currencies

K-5 Silver reminds me of my first Pentax camera, ZX-L. It was only availble in a silver with gold tint. This silver K-5 appears to be different, a brighter silver, so I can see the need for Pentax to offer matching color lenses for it.

I think redesigning entire Pentax Limited line up to be like the Pentax 100mm WR Marco would be a better idea, but just changing color creates buzz for Pentax at no additional cost.

 17.
I found the price & due date

"It is due to go on sale in the UK on 21 April, priced £3,799.99"

From:

http://www.amateurphotographer.co.uk/news/Pentax_25mm_f4_645D_lens_targets_outdoor_photographers_news_305510.html

It appears to me the drop in circular polarizer is included with the 25mm lens.
I cannot recall ever seeing anyone offer a drop in circular polarizer on a wide angle lens, let alone include a polarizer with lens purchase too.

Very Nice !

 18.
The stained sensor stops me from buying a Pentax K-5

Some find these solvent stains appear after heating up the sensor when none existed in first place

http://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/pentax-k-5-forum/125009-stains-your-k5d-sensor-poll.html

The solvent stains, which Pentax has yet to address publically, are under the sensor cover glass, thus they are uncleanable.

Other than the stained sensor plague, the Pentax K-5 looks to be best in class, especially when compared an old camera like Canon 40D.

I think a better comparision is Pentax K-5 versus Canon 7D.
In alot of countries they are in same price bracket.
