    Lunch

          2

Took this shot while on my lunch break (ironically). Saw that he had

something in his mouth but didn't realize that he had two gophers

until I brought it up on the PC screen.

Your comments are appreciated. Thanks in advance.

  1. Hello. This shot was taken "through" an MTV Canada video camera while

they taped the concert. The stage was down below where all the pink

    light is.

Not interested in ratings as much as comments and feedback. Thanks!

  2. Thank you Peter for the 2/2. I'm not concerned with the ratings I receive, but perhaps you could provide some insight into why this is such a poor photograph. And some suggestions to improve it. That's the whole point.

Hey Thom - I sent you an email to the address in the photo.net directory. I figured it would be easier than using the critique forum to chit chat. Let me know if you got it or if you want me to sent it to a different address.

My old camera was a Nikon EM (circa 1977), so anything from this decade would be quite the improvement. The time had come to buy something new, and after weighing out the film and processing costs over time, I decided to go digital. Plus a sudden influx of wedding gift money convinced my soon-to-be wife that it was "necessary".

But make no mistake, I have turned off the "auto display" that shows you every image right after you shoot. :) I think that too many people forget about metering and composing properly when they can just fire away. I am trying to work on my technique, so I am pretending that I don't have as many features at my fingertips!

I haven't sent anything to Chart yet (because a lot of my 1977 SLR era shots aren't top-notch), but I have considered it. I am currently trying to get access to the shows at MacEwan Hall here in Calgary, where a lot of the pre-hockey arena bands play. With any luck I should be able to shoot a couple of shows a week if my schedule permits it.

Now if I could just convince my wife that a 70-200 is "necessary". :)

Very nice lighting. The facial tones turned out really well considering the backlighting. Nice job!

I took some pictures of Sam Roberts in Newfoundland on the weekend with my new Canon 10D. I'll post them in a couple of days if you'd like to have a look.

Nice work with Chart Magazine too...

  3. You have captured an interesting moment. Was he standing on a ledge? I suspect that he was because of the ladder on the left. I would like to see more of the scene to get an idea of the height above the ground - this would make it a more dramatic shot.

    Hi Vignesh,

Although I've got a long way to go with my concert photography, what Neil has said is very good information. NPZ 800 is fantastic.

If I can add just one detail: If you're shooting small shows and can get close enough to the performers, you might want to consider using an old fashioned 50 f/1.8 lens. Of course, a fast zoom would be better, but a 50 f/1.8 will give you some more light than what you're using.

    Regards,

Hello. This was taken indoors with natural indirect light through the

window. Any comments and/or suggestions are welcome and appreciated.

    Thanks.
