Here is what the building looks like from a wider angle

Nice shot, Vishal. Is that the true sun or was it enhanced? Its corona is lovely and the above-cloud perspective dizzingly beautiful. I don't think I would have chosen the orange-yellow frame color that you did, but perhaps a lighter orange or even a light bluish-purple to bring out the sun or contrast gently with the sky. This could be a postcard! Thanks for sharing it.

I like the picture, Vishal. I wonder how a little different composition may work, perhaps with a tiny bit more cropped at the top. Maybe the damage in the top of the petal could be exploited to tell a story of imperfection - though it's just a passing thought and I don't have a concrete idea. I might have suggested trying another shot at a slight angle to the left, giving the flower a bit more dimensionality. Thanks for sharing!

Patrick, very nice shot! The dark lighting, I agree, works effectively, and I can't think of stronger poses for the child and man - though especially with the child, it couldn't have been a posed shot. Please keep contributing to photo.net - I could see this shot being a public service poster!

Yes, I see your point about the "9 o'clock spotlight". The picture was taken on my dining table with a bouquet of balloons behind it; I was
wondering whether the colors might help. They didn't - until I applied a large Gaussian blur. I just experimented with removing the spot of brightness from the back lighting, but am not sure I like the result better.

I really like this picture, Val. You've caught a good candid moment and your "girl on the right" has an infectiously happy demeanor. The curtains act as a good backdrop, and even the paper foliage in the foreground add textural interest and help to make the framing more soft. A few minor ideas that may be worth considering - the vertical lines in the drapes right above your friend on the right's head is a little bothersome. Is the red spot in her hair a clip of some sort? I wonder if the picture might look better with it sharpened or totally removed. Thanks for sharing!

I love that sky! For me, I would add it to my bag of skies to use to compose other scenes with; the foreground, especially the roadway and concrete barrier, are distracting.

Interesting. I assume this wasn't posed, but the photographer, camera ready, just ran into somebody dressed like Superman. I like how colors are de-hued to emphasize our "hero". I wonder if "Superman"'s stature would be increased and the picture overall possibly improved with a tighter vertical crop? Thanks for capturing this interesting street scene.

I like the shot better now without the electrical outlet. I can't remember how your original frame looked, but this one looks reasonable -- though I am not sure the blue-grey really hilights anything in the shot; perhaps a very light purple would be even better? I wish the vertical shadows on the wall (look at the apple then the thick-thin-thick shadows behind it) were not there, but I appreciate your interest in realism. Thanks for sharing a little piece of your lovely home!

I like this shot. The room is well-decorated; the sponge painted walls and paintings are elegant, and the chair rail provides a nice compositional element for the photograph. The splash of color and the simplicity of the snack is nicely done. I like the form of the frame, but wonder if this would be an even more effective picture if the frame were another color, perhaps light brown or sepia, or maybe a very light purple to complement the flowers in the middle frame. Also, the vertical shadows to the left of the chair are distracting. I almost missed it, but the electrical outlet, especially with the colored insert, also takes away from the shot and may be worth digitally removing. Nice, inviting picture!

Neat idea! The lighting is very well done (I would enjoy hearing how you accomplished that).

Interesting - it makes me think of a spaceship. The garlic is a bit out of focus and the black blob at the bottom right is distracting. Interesting idea!

Thanks for the comment. The light is something that I added with Paint Shop Pro. I thought that it would add a balance to the shot's composition, and create an almost surreal picture.
-
I like the perspective that you are showing; a portrait looking at the faces would be a much less interesting picture. I might suggest a less centered cropping.
-
Pt. Reyes is lovely - please take a look at my shot there. Manju, you may come up with an even more exciting picture by abstracting it a bit in a paint program.
-
Neat, Peter! Lee, I think your shot may benefit from a bit of Peter's shift, but with your original beach shrubbery. I also would include a little bit of the shrubbery to the left, too, so you still get the channeling of the movement.
-
That red splash! The flattened contrasts work well with the red. I like the strong dynamic sense. The beach shrubbery channels the movement and frames the shot, but I wonder if the composition would be better if it were less centered. Bold and unique!

I love the cheerful yellow color here. The composition is interesting, though I think it would be even better with a less linear upright leaf. Quite nice!
-
Excellent juxtaposition of vibrant fall colors all in one leaf vis-a-vis greytoned sister leaves and background. Good idea!
-
I like the bright colors against the flat black. Lighting is good, though could be softened a bit. Decent depth and dimensionality, though I think the tomato looks "flat". It may be an artifact of a lower resolution here, but the white border is slightly irregular.

Lovely. Delicate butterfly, well lit to hilight wings. I like the composition and background color, and the suspense of the butterfly's balance.

... the butterfly fills the frame and the macro helps us focus on his/her immediate world
