Very good shot! What kind of Fuji film did you use? The print looks awesomely clean and clear.

I REALLY like this shot. Awesome emotion, awesome composition, awesome contrast...nothing to clutter the shot. The head and hands form a beautiful triangle. And since his head is in focus you look there first, then his downward expression draws you down to his hands. Great work!

Is there any particular reason why half of the frame is empty, useless background? Crop that bad boy. I like the quality of the shot though and the concentrated look he has.

I like it, good capture, too bad his eyes are closed though. I think it would look better if you cropped about 1/3 of the left side, up to the mic cord and maybe a tad off the top, so the subject isnt as centered in the frame.

You mean Bob Gruen :) Well the band really came up with the idea. As you noticed they are fans of the clash, and in that fashion they decided to use the photo of the clash that is on his t-shirt as inspiration for the shot, of course the irony being he would wear the shirt for it the photo. So thats why its more staged looking.

I really enjoyed looking at this photo when I got home. I don't

think my flash had fully recovered, which is why it came out a bit

darker, but thats probably good otherwise his finger wouldve been

blown out. I had no time to set this one up, it was pretty much all

reaction. Im surprised I even got it in focus, much less framed

decently (no after-market cropping here). I love the foggy lights in

the background and how he is almost hiding in the shadows pointing

fingers at people. Im sure some people wont like his mouth being

pitch black along with his pants, but I dont mind it too much. Your

thoughts?

Just wanted some feedback on this one. This was taken with my wide-

angle lens on real film. I scanned the negative and desaturated it

in photoshop and added quite a bit of contrast. Along with that I

rotated the image to make it a little crooked, just to give it even

more of a "punk" feel. This is a punk band and I wanted the

photograph to express that. This is the first shot I scanned, theres

many more I took, but I thought this one would be good to show.

Helpful critiques are welcome.

I liked it because I've seen normal b&w photos that may be similar to this, but just a normal hand. This photo adds a very distinct twist to any sort of "normal" photo and thats why it stuck out to me.

Also, Reed, maybe the photo is just to get people to think about it. Certainly it succeeded with that by your reply.

Print another, but burn her hands/face/skin and maybe dodge a little in the corners to seperate the background from her hair(im assuming you are printing in your high school lab) then get the retouching pens and fix up those scratches at the bottom and youll be set.

It may be some work, but trust me, youll appreciate it later on.

The composition and dof is great. I really like the image. They complete whiteness of the sky is a little distracting, i would like to see it burned in. Other then that its excellent!

It looks fine uncropped, but if you really want to crop it I would consider taking some off the left, since the right side has more of the brighter blue. And then take a tad off the top and bottom to accentuate the horizon.

Very nice, good use of avaliable light. Just crop some the excess around him and it will be perfect.

 

I have quite a bit of concert shots, if you would like to take a look.

Id crop the top down to top of the little red/yellow on the left of the picture, so that the top of the picture is just above the first mini waterfall. Then id take just tad off the bottom.

Its more fun to not rely on the flash, get some fast film, fuji superia 800 is nice, and shoot with avaliable light. It would have been nice to see the background a bit more, along with the rest of this guitar, too bad hes not facing the camera. Good shoot though and ive seen slick shoes many times, ha.

Yeah, it would be better if you had a wider angle, and got the rest of the guy jumping. Nice lighting though. Oh and big d is an amazing band, Im a little oc ska kid over here.
