Hi,
At lomg last a sensible photographic site with some constructive feedback. Thank you to everyone who has taken the time to give advice.
I am starting to write some articles on South East Asia and would like to know how I submit them to this site for review. One is finished on the Lake Inle area of Myanmar (Burma). If anyone would like a copy please email me on darrin@djphotography.net. Would love your feedback.

Thanks for any constructive comments - Darrin

Hi Lorenzo, there are many other images from Burma in my folder.

This was dawn at Angkor Wat. I was actually shooting the opposite way and was lucky to turn at the right time. Like all our shots posted it does no justice to the original.
-
James, you described this like you were there! There was no posing, just a moment shared. Thanks
-
Just fantastic Dan, my congratulations on the Cover Shot too. They have good taste.

Isidro, sorry I don't like your version for one reason and one reason only. It doesn't look like the original tranny. The one I posted does. Cheers, Darrin

Marlena, just email me and I will send you a larger version darrin@djphotography.net

Yes, that would make me about 7 or 8!! The book actually covers a span from 1885 to 1996.

Not true Philip!! This was a discovery that no-one outside of Burma had ever seen before I got there!!
Back to reality. Philip is right, this is a very famous bridge which has been shot many thousands of times I'm sure. The book Amy refers to is a great read if you get the chance. Can't remember when it was written but certainly before I was born. I don't think the people on the cover of the book are the same people in my shot : )

Gavin, I use the Canon FS4000US Slide scanner. I then set up the slide on the light box and play with the image on my screen until it looks like the original.

This has been posted on another site and the majority of the comments I got back indicated that the cross should line up with the head. I took the shot this way because if you line up the cross, it takes away from the missing head. It would give it less of a tone than I wanted.

It can always be arranged Vicki!

To Isisdro. Yes, the one on the bridge is PS'd. I rarely change my shots but I actually had no good ones on the bridge to to the time of day I was actually on the bridge. As you can see, I'm better with a camera than a PC!!!
The POW shot is as close to the original as I can get. In fact it was very nearly published in Wanderlust Magazine but they declined at the last minute due to the human rights issues in Burma.

Same bridge, same day, further out.

Oh, and I hope you noticed the person in the water! When it is blown up they are much more obvious and is a strong reason for me the water should not be cropped.
-
Wow, all this attention. I can understand those who prefer this cropped because I can understand that people see different things, whether in an image, a person or life in general. I presented the photo in the best way that reminded me of being back there.
No, the figures have not been pasted on (that cracked me up!) and they are locals walking between one village to another. Going about their daily lives, trading, farming and being with friends and family.
The bridge itself is quite wide (probably about 12' from memory) and it is one of Burma's oldest. The included shot is on the bridge itself to give you the idea.
The sunset was amazing although it waqs helped with a warm up filter. My wife Dana and I were in a small boat in the middle of the water just soaking in the serenity and the surrealism of this amazing scene.
So, crop away, it hangs on my wall as it is!
Thanks for all your comments and thanks to the elves for choosing this shot,
Darrin

I love the gradient of brown grass to blue sky with everything thrown in the middle. The photo is sharp, has the right DOF and the centre of attention is placed rihght for me. It's a shot you would be happy to blow up and hang.
