PL tell= Copying RAW and TIFF, DNG digital files (w/o editing, opening-closing, saving) from card to hard disc then to another hard disc then to many hard discs for safe storage when required. will this degrade the quality of original files?
If yes , how much?
I want to clarify I am not asking about JPEGs compression and quality loss but I want to know about other lossless formats like-RAW, TIFF, DNG etc.
For example =I shot 10GB data in RAW/Basic jpeg. I copy it to A Hard disc: Then rename files, fill iptc information, geo tag. Then for safe storage from that A hard disc I want to copy to B and C hard discs which are lying at different locations. Similarly I want to store at Cloud Service of Adobe also. All this is done w/o editing of images. Will this degrade the quality of original files?

I have Sony a6000 camera. When I want to copy pictures from its card it shows 4 folders, like-
1. DCIM.
2. MP_ROOT.
3. PRIVATE.
4. WMPInfo.
Though only 1 DCIM folder contains picture files. Others are almost empty.
Pl tell what shud I do? Copy all folders or only DCIM? If to copy all folders cause they r important for data storage then wherever I take back up,shud all these folders be backed up with picture files?

My camera Canon 5D MkII is 720nm converted for IR permanently. I shoot RAW. (As I read every where), I tried to do its custom white balance from green grass but still it gives me purple cast. I have tried other colours also for custom white balance= brown, black, white etc. but of no use. I want to get BxW direct from camera w/o any post processing as I was getting with my Fuji 9600/9100 with custom white balance from green grass. (Fuji was not converted permanently for IR but only its IR blocking filter was removed. Thus I was using 720nm filter in front of lens.)
When contacted ACS for this they replied- "With a 720nm filter it is not possible to do black and white from the camera with custom white balance, but you can switch the camera to monochrome. This will give black and white images straight from the camera."
If I shoot BxW direct in camera or I shoot color in camera and convert it later to BxW, will that make any difference to image quality?
Pl advise -How can I get custom white balance adjusted which can deliver BxW direct from camera.
I got converted my Canon 5D MkII from ACS U.K. for 720nm Infrared (permanently) few months back. They have done great job for conversion. Its autofocusing (in IR w/o calibration) with 24-105L lens is so good I can shoot flying birds in focus with it. (Though this camera and lens are not meant for BIF). They delivered me camera before time as per my request w/o any extra charges. I am very happy with their service, no doubt it is expensive when compared to USA.

In my experience in morning or evening, backlight or side backlight which makes long shadows and translucent leaves, that light makes great pictures in Infrared.
I agree that front light and greens at noon time are good subjects.

I suggest -There is no substitute for a stable platform, though all sugessions are good.
try very long legged tripod in shallow water,(You can mount a extender on your tripod legs which you can make yourself, not very difficult.) At least few waterfalls can be shot this way. May be from a distance with tele lens. All water falls make a deep hole where water falls then where it flows out it is shallow. you can find a shallow-water place, I am sure.
Other option is - If falls are in narrow gorges/rocks both sides, then hammer a long thick strong spike (12-18"long and 1" thick) in the rock crevices, mount head on this and your camera is rock steady.
Otherwise in narrow places Manfrotto poles can be used, these are poles which can be adjusted for their length and they are spring loaded to keep their length.
In my humble opinion- best and most stable platform can be 1. Long legged tripod. 2. A spike in to rock crevices.3. horizontal bar/poles with camera mounted on that.

I have tried Nikon D800 with 70-200 F2.8 on birds in flight. It gave excellent tresults . I mean birds in flight and in focus. I shot handheld ,This camera is not built for BIF, but studio. Still I tried on most erratic difficult subjects it worked. AF is not problem w D800.

Recently bought From BxH, a Olympus 24mm (OM Mount) PC lens , modified for Nikon. Its optics are clean but outer body many dents and scars. It has no knobs to shift lens. It can be pushed sidewise or upwards / downwards w/o rotating lens like in Nikon. I Think it has more shift all sides than Nikon. Main advantage to me its 24mm wide at same price. I went there to buy Nikon 28 PC but salesman suggested this and I bought it because price was same, 750$/.
Now Pl advise me how can I test it optically for architecture photography, cause. I can return it in a month.
Your help will be apprecited.
