What times are you using, those of you who use Acros and Rodinal?

I shoot the film at asa 100, and use Rodinal at 1:50, my water temp

here in Florida runs 23-24 deg C. Last roll I developed for 9.5

min, but it seemed a little overexposed. Obviously, I can continue

to experiment, and will, but just wondering if others are using this

    combination.

    Thanks very much, Jim

  2. Thanks for the input. I'm excited about our trip, just was concerned about leaving the rest of the family on their own...but hey, they're resourceful, and what a place!!

I'm a big fan of Clyde Butcher's. Been to his gallery in Venice (Fl). He actually was scheduled to give a talk on Ansel Adams at the Naples, Fl. museum of art last month. Missed it.

    Thanks again. Jim

  3. Roger, not sure the vinyl LP analogy works. The record labels were all too happy to resell us our entire record collections on the new (CD) format. And by the way, are ready to resell it again to us on the next new format: SACD or DVD audio. You can be sure that the music labels will have whatever technology is required to convert their music holdings from it's (mostly tape) format to whatever format is selling.

In the case of film, it's already in our hands and many, many of us will want to be able to print via the current technology...perhaps not at home, but at least we'll want the option of being able to have it done at a lab.

Anyway, I think scanners are far from becoming extinct.

BTW, turntables are very easy to buy. New ones. And cartridges, too!

  4. Got my first roll of slides back today and all were underexposed; by

several stops, I'm guessing. I shot Velvia (50) for the first time

with this setup and all were with my new (used) 400/f6.8 Telyt lens.

    Camera is a Leicaflex SL.

Though the camera is new to me and this is the first film with the

400 lens, I've had good results with several other rolls of film with

the other two lenses I have; 50 sumicron and 75-200 vario.

So...what's wrong? I had the film speed set at 50, the lollypop was

mostly over the needle, lens was set at f6.8, shutter speeds ranged

from 250 to 60. I have the CRIS battery adaptor and other film has

been correctly exposed. The two variables that changed are the lens

    and the film.

Is is possible that the SL's film speed dial is wrong at asa 50? It

seems OK at 100. The lens ? Could the film have been processed

wrong? I use the local pro place and they have always done excellent

    work.

This novice would appreciate any thoughts from this seasoned group.

    Thanks, Jim.

  5. Thank you, everyone, for your help. I guess I thought there might another version that I should be looking for, with cams one and two as on my other R lenses, but it sounds as if the 400 never had any more cams, and really doesn't need them.

I'm going to buy this lens and have some fun.

    Thanks again. Jim

  6. I've recently gotten a Leicaflex SL. Works great. Have a 50 F2 and

    75-200 Vario.

I'd really like to get the 400/F6.8 lens to take pics of birds and

beasts. A used one that is available has "3rd" cam only, which I

guess means that I will have to push the stopdown button on the front

to get an accurate meter reading. On Doug Herr's excellent Leicaflex

pages he says the only way to use this lens is wide open, which would

eliminate the need to push the stopdown button.

So...am I correct about this ?? What else should I be aware of with

this lens ? How long is it ?

    Thanks in advance. Jim.

  7. Thanks, guys. The stuff was well used, not abused..clearly used as someones well worn tools would be. I'll probably get back with the shop on Monday and see what I can work out. The CRIS adaptor sounds like the practical solution to the battery problem. Being able to use readily available batteries would be nice.

I've done my share of horsetrading with pawnshop owners (I collect old wristwatches) but most of these guys are just trying to make a living so I don't try to beat out every last nickle from them. Plus, it often pays to leave them feeling good about you, they are more likely to bring out the "good stuff" next time you visit.

Thanks again for your thoughtful responses.

  8. Hi to all. I'm a fairly new user(1 year)of a Leica M6TTL. Love it.

Been lurking here reading all the excellent posts...learning a lot.

    Some real knowledge here.

Came across a Leica SL with a vario elmar 75-200 f4.5 lens (Japanese)

in a pawn shop the other day. The price seems reasonable-$400/both,

but I'm concerned because the camera has seen some heavy use, and

past postings have cautioned about a hard to get 1.3v battery-#625?.

Would I be able to use a 1.5v #625 that I can find a the drug store?

I'm interested in the SL because my wife and I would like to

occasionally photo a bird or something with a long lens.

Also, I was not able bring the lens into focus at the 200 mm length,

but was when I brought it down to 75 mm or so.

How much is a CLA likely to cost me for this camera?

Thanks very much in advance for any input.
