Hi,
I have a Contax T which I would like to take on my next trip in about week, but the foam strips inside
(where the film goes) have turned to sticky goo. Is anyone familiar with this camera - is it possible to clean
out the foam and not have to replace it, or how should I go about finding/installing the foam?
Thanks!

Thanks for asking! Actually, it took awhile after I got back to get my film developed, and I don't have it finished yet! I have to take in some slides to get them scanned. I had a fantastic time and saw many amazing things, played fun concerts, and celebrated my strangest Christmas and birthday yet. I'll be getting the photos in pretty soon, so I'll try to post them...
All the best,
Jeanie

I know it's a vague question. I was wondering what YOU might find interesting and worthwhile. I don't really have an idea in my head as to what I want to see or do, so I'll listen to everything anyone has to say! Having said that, I probably won't want to spend too much time in museums, as I enjoy just walking around...I probably won't have too much free time because it's a concert tour, but the organizer says he's trying to get as much free time as possible...
As for the labs, I won't bother processing anything over there, based on what you've said. I thought maybe there might be decent prices for film, but apparently not? I don't have the schedule yet, but I believe there will be several flights within China. Should I worry about x-ray machines there, or are they like in the US?
Thanks for your answer!

I'll be going to China next month, so I'm looking for reccomendations
for films you think are appropriate. Here's where I'm going:
Beijing, Langfang, Shijiazhuang, Nanjing, Hefei, Changsha, Chengdu,
Hangzhou, Shanghai.
I imagine I'll be doing street and landscape photos, just typical
travel stuff. I'm not sure what it's like there, though, and
therefore don't have a clue what would work. Any ideas are welcome!
Thanks! Jeanie

I'm looking for advice for a trip I'm taking to China over Christmas.
I will look through some guidebooks, but I'm just wondering if anyone
has ideas about buying film or equipment, getting processing, where
to go, etc. Also, what is your favourite thing about a certain place
or the country in general? Are there any spots I just have to see? In
your opinion, at least...=) Here's where I'm going: Beijing,
Langfang, Shijiazhuang, Nanjing, Hefei, Changsha, Chengdu, Hangzhou,
Shanghai.
Thanks!

Thanks for all your answers! It's been interesting hearing what you have to say. Just about my own situation, I will be going for a concert tour and will have my instrument stuff with me, as well as my suitcase and whatnot. I'm 5ft tall -or should I say short?- and I wouldn't say I have all that much strength as I have long-term health problems. So I'm trying to cut the load so I can manage it and not curse myself for bringing so much! I do have my F65, but I find that carrying that plus my violin plus what I need for concerts tends to be a bit much, not to mention attention-attracting. I'm interested in something small, but still sharp, that I can rely on (I do prefer E6). I have read a lot about the Olympus Epic, but there have been conflicting reviews. Is it a difficult camera to get used to the focusing? I've noticed a lot of comments about unfocused photos...Yes, the Contax G2 is way out of my range! Oh, any really quiet cameras? Another issue with an SLR is the loud noise. Concert halls don't like it very much! =)
Thanks again for your ideas!

Hello,
I'm wondering what is everyone's favourite travel camera, and why
it's your pick. I will be taking a three-week trip to China in about
7 weeks. I'm looking for something that I can easily use with slide
film, which means I don't want to have to worry about exposure in
daytime situations. I've been reading through a lot of the posts, but
I'm hoping for some updated answers. I don't want to bring a digital
camera, but I'm open to just about anything else. I can't afford an
expensive one (I'm just a poor student who is trying to buy enough
film!), but I'd like to hear about everything, if only just for
future reference...
Thanks,
Jeanie

Thanks for the responses. I should be going back soon, so I'll be checking out a lot of these places! Now I have to prepare for the trip to China...=)

Hi,
I'm looking for a camcorder for family events and such things. I am
not sure what to be looking for though. I have a budget of about
600USD. I've been looking on the internet, but it's all very
confusing. What resoloution do I want? How useful are those features
like NightShot and image stabilizers? Help!!

I am going to New York City this weekend for a couple of days and was
wondering if people could suggest particularly interesting places to
walk around. I will have my 15-year-old sister, who's just starting
to get into photography. Also, the only times I have been there
before were for my music, and I haven't really seen much of anything
there except Carnegie Hall. What are your favourite spots? Thanks
for the help!

I just want to thank everybody for their answers. I wasn't aware of things like the software to clean up grain and whatnot, and I will start looking into scanners since I have a ton of negs I'd like to convert. Any suggestions? I'm a student on a tight budget, so a lot of the ones I've seen are out of my range...

Thanks for all the advice. I'm going to look into all of this. I have been looking at flights to Italy and I like what I see so far! Hopefully I'll end up with at least a few photos I can put up here...

*This question was posted in the unarchived forum, but I am
interested in getting more responses. I've included the answers
here. I'm posting it here, by the way, because I am a Nikon
user=)...Oh, I got a somewhat strange email regarding this post.
Please don't email, just post here!*
When I ask people about topics for self-assignments, I usually get
the same answers over and over again: landscapes, architecture,
people, nature, etc. The other day I talked to a friend of mine who
mentioned he had an ongoing project where he makes photos of
interesting doors, whether it's the whole door or just the knocker,
or whatever.
So now I'm wondering, what interesting, unusual, crazy, or just weird
self-assignments have you made for yourself?

Haykin In my old neighborhood, Echo Park in L.A., there are dozens of
stairways. Some are paving stone, some concrete, some wooden, some
just packed dirt. Some are maintained, while others are decaying and
overgrown with weeds. A local photog spent nearly a year shooting
them in B&W, and I made all his prints. It was a splendid work, and
worthy of a coffeetable book. I've seen collections of spider webs,
graffiti, interesting signage, old shoes, funky yards, doorknockers,
odd tree configurations, and you name it. If done well, virtually any
subject matter can be made interesting.

One Response Date: 03-19-04 16:14 From: Donald Qualls My current,
ongoing assignment is to try to do street photography in the little
time I have after leaving work, and before picking my wife up from
her work every afternoon. I make sure I always have a camera ready,
exposure preset and zone focused (usually my Moskva-5 6x9 folder,
which I can fold with presets ready). I keep it in hand and the
window down when sitting at traffic lights.
I'm getting a few shots, maybe a roll (8 frames) per week or a little
more. It's more than I've done before with street photography; the
years when I had jobs that would have let me do this well (walking
and driving downtown a lot, taking the bus to or from work) were
years I was away from photography.

One Response Date: 03-20-04 05:15 From: Chris Waller I, too, love
photographing doors! My other fixation is derelict buildings with
plants growing out of the brickwork. I have one shot of a factory
chimney about 60 feet high with a bush growing at the top of it!

Thanks for your answers! They are starting to give me an idea of what to bring. I like to do pictures of everything. I will take some people photos, but I'm mostly going to do places -- buildings and details and whatnot. So a tabletop tripod is probably best, eh? Will it be versatile enough? Wilson, were all your photos taken with a 50mm? I liked what I saw, although I didn't manage to see all of them yet since my internet is so slow! Bastian, I will be mostly in Berlin, in the Frankfurt and Mannheim area, and the tour I'm doing is for the Schleswig-Holstein Festival, so Kiel and that area. I have some flexibility for about a week to travel then, so do you have any reccomendations?

I forgot to ask about tripods and easier-to-carry substitutes. I would like to skip bringing a tripod but am interested in taking some night shots. Is it possible to do both? What's the value of bringing a monopod?

I posted a question yesterday but it's disappeared before I could
read the answers! So I'm hoping people will give me their advice
again...
I'm going to Germany, Paris, Budapest, Gyor, and Bratislava in May
and June as a musician on tour. I'm short on free time and space to
carry camera equipment. I'm looking for advice on places I shouldn't
miss in the little time I've got, and what people think is the
essential equipment to bring. I own an F65 and 50/1.8 lens.
Thanks!

I have just received a Yashica-A TLR and have not much of an idea how
to best use it. Any tips?

Thanks for the quick answers! I will look up "interslice" as I am limited by not having a car to
find foam and whatnot myself...I hope I can get this ready for next week!
