Hi Walter,
I do not see how changing the lens will affect the exposure. The only possible change would be the possibility of a more precise iris; however from tests I have read, it appears that on the worst lenses the unaccuracy of the apperture is only 1/3 to 1/2 stop at most. If I were you I would first shoot a couple of slide rolls with your 24-85 mm lens. Slide film has a much lower exposure latitude, so at the beginning you may encounter difficulties, but I would not buy a new lens only for this. Notice that your lens is generally considered as a very good lens.

Olivier.

Hi,
I have bought 50mm/1.8 Mark I. It was very cheap (less than 100$ here in Israel where a Mark II (but new) would have cost me some 150$), but in fact I was slightly disappointed: my problem is that the AF is slow. It seems that Mark II is slightly faster (lighter), but from now on I have decided I will not buy any lense that is not USM.

Olivier.

Hi,
Only for information: I had a very similar debate, and on the end I bought 135 f2 L: I will get it in a few days so I cannot give a first hand comment on it though.

Hi,
I do not know the SCA 307A nor SCA 3007A, but obviously to answer your question, one needs to know which camera you have.
Notice you can ask the question to Metz itself:
http://www.metz.de/1_metz_2000/index.html
Use Welcome->SERVICE SUPPORT->E-MAIL/CONTACT SUPPORT->Support photo electronics.
Also in http://www.metz.de/1_metz_2000/index.html there is an application to find the best adapter for a flash - camera combination.

Olivier.

Hi,
I have personally decided I will not buy non-USM lenses anymore. USM is really much faster. It is one of the very good aspects of Canon.

Hi,
If you stop down below f16, NO lens will be sharp (even not a prime like say EF 35mm 1.4). The differences (in sharpness) between any lenses stopped down f11 and more will be negligeable. This does not mean you should not stop down, but you have to be aware of this fact.
If you generally stop down below f16, I think you would better hold your current 28-90 USM and save your money.

Hi,
Look at http://www.bhphotovideo.com/FrameWork/charts/comp_metzflash_canon.html
Actually SCA 3102 is the newer adapter that gives E-TTL.
The best place to find the adapter is in fact
http://www.metz.de/1_metz_2000/m_pages_english/main_index_e.php3?link=4&sub=6&linkname=mecablitz
(or go from http://www.metz.de/ -> WELCOME -> MECABLITZ -> SCA-Adapter)
This gives you the name of the bets adapter and its characteristics for each flash gun and each camera. You can also use the SERVICE/SUPPORT: I have found them to be very precise in their answers.

Olivier.

Hi,
I am not sure, so be cautious. I think that to adapt the 45 CT-5 to an EOS camera, you need the adapter SCA 511 and SCA 311 (no AF assist) or SCA 511 and SCA 312/2AF (or SCA 511 and SCA 312/AF which is the same but slightly older). In both cases you should (but verify first) have TTL (but no E-TTL). You can probably also use SCA511+SCA3000C+SCA3102 and this might give you E-TTL (but it will be quite expensive, and once again you have to verify). Now, SCA 511 and SCA 311 and SCA 312/2AF are not more produced. Still you can find them on Ebay (just now you can find them, so you can ask the seller).
I personnally have a 45 CT-4 (very similar to 45 CL-4) with SCA312/2AF and SCA 300A (no need of SCA 511); it works fine, TTL (but no E-TTL) but the AF works only on the central AF sensor of my Elan 7.
You can send a question in http://www.metz.de : (go to WELCOME, SERVICE SUPPORT, E-MAIL CONTACT-SUPPORT or try http://www.metz.de/1_metz_2000/m_pages_english/main_index_e.php3?link=7&sub=3&linkname=service): I have found that they are very helpful, even for products they do not more officially support.

My experience with portrait with candles is that the problems begin around 1/15 with 50mm/1.8. It depends on the contrast of the subject though. The built-in AF assist will help you (you can use a CF (7 if I remember good) to disable the flash without disabling the AF assist), but I feel it is horrible. With the AF assist of a flash (and the same CF is useful) you can go well lower than 1/15-f 1.8.

Hi,<p>
I would like to buy a wide lens.
<p>
I would like to know if 20mm would not be too wide for people photography.
<p>
Thanks,
<p>
Olivier.

<i>Moderator's Note: The question above has been edited to focus it on the very appropriate question about People Photography. The rest of the question pertained to specific lens choice and should be submitted to the General Photo.net forum. Photos that show the use of very wide angle lenses are certainly welcome.</i>
What do u do when theyre not happy?

Hi James,
Yes, sometimes a photograph must also be a psychologue ... :-). I would see this occasion as an opportunity: if you have time (and unfortunately time is money), working with her can lead to nice photos that SHE will like, even if they are in fact not as nice than the first ones. As said in a previous answer, it helps a lot to know why she does not like your proof: most probably it is something she does not like in HERSELF, perhaps she even does not know what.

Olivier.
