Is a Hasselblad/63 the same as a B60. Can it fit the modern CF 60mm lens?
with thanks

Hasselblad 553 or 555 ELD. Getting the body will be the cheapest part of your project.

Inexpensive mask, more shots per roll, ideal ratio for the web application I had in mind and a little fun.

If you have Ernst Wildi's book The Hasselblad Manual (5th Edition) there is a
section on page 3 ref the panorama mask. If you follow his instruction "with
care" and apply the 6X3 mask within the camera, you can indeed effect 24
exposures on one 120 roll. The whole proceedure reminded me of my half plate
days.

I have been offered a cheap 16 exposure back for my Hasselblad.
I will combined it with the panorama mask I have. Is there a difference
between the 12on and 16on magazines apart from the the magazine gearing. I
have the mask within the camera giving me 55X28mm picture. Hopefully the
combination will work. Any thoughts.

Appreciate that all.

For those of you who have a Hasselblad 70mm magazine handy. On looking down on
the magazine with the unit attached to the camera can you give me the
dimensions of the magazine.
With thanks

Fes get yourself a 80mm Planar standard lens. I also have a 553. I use many other lenses on the camera but the 80mm is short and light and ideal for you to learn upon. It is also quite cheap. Any others will be more expensive and place you either in the wide or tele camp. By the way the 553 is a hidden gem. Use good quality AA batteries and you will have fun.

In the viewfinder there is a small box above the main frame. This is approx the degree of shift you will get. I used the 135U for years upside down to obtain the 8 degree shift downwards.

Ben, get yourself a 553 body to go with your 503. It is perfect for the studio and they come up cheap at Keh.

A DSE. Seems to be good on the quality front. Have set it on 1440X900 which gives a good area of view. This whole subject of monitor calibration opens up a can of worms.

Time for a new computer screen. I have put it off for a long time and finally
the salesmanship of a young computer shop assistant opened my wallet.
It is a 19inch wide screen version. With regards to how to set up the correct
colours. Is there a place online I can go to to check that the colours/
brightness/ contrast I have on my screen are correct. I don't want to produce
lovely Hasselblad scans knowing that infact my screen colours are "out". I know
there is a unit you can place on the screen to check the screen, I just thought
there maybe an online facility.

Why bother with two cameras. Unless you are shooting crowd scenes, the sliding bracket system is best for stereo. If you really want to make it fun slide the camera up to two feet apart on the same scene.

I have used the 553 with the D-40 flash and the TTL within the camera. It works
well. I have never used it with a larger studio flash system. What pitfalls
am I likely to encounter and what extra equipment will be needed with the
camera to link up a studio system. Can I still use the TTL flash sytem within
the camera?
with thanks

Mine is a magnificent camera. The 553 takes the AA bateries so purchase the best quality you can find.. The auto advance plus mirror lock up will make your picture taking easier. On the used market, have it checked before you purchase.
I use mine more than my 503

Easy. Revert back to 36X24 then take a shot with the cap on. Then revert back to 55X24.

Nope, if they are using the same lens.
There would be a difference in picture quality if you took the individual who is clicking the shutter into account. Some of the finest photographic work I've seen was taken by somebody who new how to use his 35 year old Hasselblad.

I appreciate the time you have put into the reply Matt. Many thanks

Does anybody use a Virtual Background (the unit that shines a background via a
45 degree mirror). How do they work and would it be just the thing for a small
studio.

Has anybody come across a "add on" fisheye that fits the B60 filter size. I
have seen one for the B50 but alas I have seen nothing for the more modern lens.

It is a great camera John and if you have the 3.5 yashinon lens it is a bonus. I believe the Yashinon lens is every bit as good as the Tessar. I have used mine as a backup for years.

I was taking a number of interior shots at the weekend at a business. The
light was streaming in from the outside and made exposure calculation a hit an
miss situation with the 40mm Distagon. So I put on the D-40, dialed up 800asa
(I was using 400asa) and let the magic of the TTL flash work on the 553. What
a lovely unit the D-40 flash is. The flash just killed the harshness of the
shadows and ended a happy chappy.
