The expression is priceless - made me grin.

Lots of photo opportunities here. But in this photo, none ring out as being the subject.
You might really enjoy a book called "Art of Seeing" by Bryan Peterson.

What do you think?

Would this be better with model facing camera and head back?

I think the studio is non-smoking but I plead "artistic license".

Thanks for the kind words everyone.
Len that was a very thoughtful comment, one of the more articulate I've ever received on Photo.net in 8 years.

I saw this bench in January and had the above image in mind. Got the chance to shoot
it on Sunday. How did it work out?
-
I was aiming for dramatic lighting, dynamic image and a layered background to give the
image depth. How'd it work out?
-
I was trying to get an image with some sense of depth - compared to shooting against
continuous paper.
What can I do better?

Good lighting - smooth skin tones and hair high lights. Catch lights in the eyes are spot on. She may too centered in the frame but it works with her staring into the camera.
Her face is serious and the head position hints at vulnerability as does the bare and slightly rolled forward shoulder. It fits perfectly with the facial expression - especially the eyes.
I don't see the disheveled hair as supporting a message or theme and it interferes with the focal point of the image: her eyes.
Overall it's a very well executed image with solid emotional content.

Lighting, pose, composition, background: any comments? I'm looking to improve and
value your pointers.

While working on this shot, we had some extra company show up believing there was actual racing going on. They agreed to pose for a couple of shots too. See attached.

This was my final submission in a class and it did well. Yet, I know the ultimate measure of a
photo is how well flies on photo.net. Let 'er rip.
