1. Hi all,

I've got an opportunity to travel to Suriname and I'd like to take some

documentary photos down there. Anyone has a suggestion for an interesting theme?

I've heard for example about problems in the south with youngsters from tribal

areas not having work entering the gold mining industry, abusing alcohol/other

drugs, anyone could assist on that (recommend a contact person, etc)..?

    Thanks,

    David.

  2. Hi,

am designing my own book right now. The book will be 13*11" in size and

background will be black. I am going to print it through Blurb.
Its 95% photographs with nature motives and I was just curious if someone could

recommend me when to use white border around photo. I tried to find out myself

but it looks quite hard for me, one day I like the border, second day I decide

its not that good for that photo. Is there any common rule which would help me

to decide? Like: if there is white in the photo, its worth the border.
Second think am curious about is if I can switch photo formats over different

pages, ie once I use photo over whole page, second time I use a smaller one or

maybe two smaller photos on one page. I went through couple of books and it

seems switching design adds a bit of dynamics to the book but my friends who

previewed the book were a bit skeptic about it.
Just for reference, the 15-page preview of the book can be found here: <a
It is my first book so its a nice experience and I'd welcome any

    comments/recommendations.
Thanks,
David.

  3. Hi,

I've reveived package of test papers from innova and was curious how this papers

will perform. To my surprise, all matte papers had washed out colours (in dark

blue sky) and they could not compare to results with glossy paper. I tried both

cotton smooth and soft textured innova papers which should be one of the best

archival papers on the market. I used photo black ink cartridge an the profiles

innova supplies on its website (they only supply ICC profiles for photo black

cartridge, no photo matte) on Epson 2100 printer. Would it be any difference if

I used matte black cartridge and if so, isnt it a bit confusing that they only

    provide profiles for photo black?

If I do not manage to solve this issue, I'll be forced to look for an archival

glossy paper, any recommendation what could be worht to try from the market?

    Thanks,

    David.

  4. Hi,

I am in a process of choosing a new bag for my equipment. I was nearly decided

to go for Lowepro Slingshot 200AW BUT it looks like it would not be the right

bag since I own the nikon 70-200/2.8 lens which does not manage to get in and I

dont think its a good option to attach it to the Slingshot (weight, difficult

handling). Second thing with slingshot is it looks like if you take it to

forward position, its difficult to access other equipment than the camera body -

for example if you want to switch lenses. I did not try the bag myself, just

wrom what I saw on the web.

Any recommendations for a bag then that would suit my equipment?

    - D200 body with 12-24mm lenses on

    - 35mm/f2D

    - 50mm/f1.8D

    - 70-200/2.8VR

    - SB600

    + 3batteries/3CF cards/cleaning set/MC-30 remote controll

    Thanks

  5. Hi, might I know which part of Czech Republic are you gonna visit? I know the eastern part "moravia" a bit and could recommend some places to visit, like "Resovske vodopady" (Resovke Waterfalls), some photo examples from that location or Beskydy mountains, some photo examples here.

  6. Hi, could anyone help me on pricing in this case?

Original email from a customer >>

I am writing to you from a Japanese TV production company in the UK.

We are working on a documentary about traditional tribal tools and we

are very interested in your photos of the Turkana tribe, especially

the photo of the wrist knife. Is there any possibility we could use

this photo in our programme? If so, please could you advise me of the

cost for one flash on Japanese terrestrial television?

    <<

I usually use a web service to count approximate price for my photos

but this time its for TV and there is no pricing for that.

    Thanks,

    David.

  7. Hi fellows,

I am planning a visit to South India during end of Feb and beginning

of Jan 2006. I'm trying to figure out my route (I've 4 weeks) and I'd

appreciate any tips for interesting places which are "must see and

    photograph" - nature, tribe, "mountains"...

Ideally I'd also like to come back with couple of photos making up a

small document covering a local "thing" - for example typical activity

for the area, like snake catching, local wrestling, etc. Would anyone

have suggestions what might be of interest?

    Thanks,

    David.

  8. Thanks all again for your suggestions. Aaron thanks for the tip, I really dont mind if the lightning is artificial or natural as long as its original and unique on this planet, am sure I wont regret visiting this place.

    Thanks,

    David.

  9. Hello,

I'd like to ask about best time to visit Southern China. I'd like to

photograph mostly the nature around Guilin, but have around three

weeks so other recommendations are welcomed - would be nice for

example to visit some "less known" indigenous groups. I dont mind

having it rough on a trip. I'd be arriving in Guangzhou.

    Thanks, David.

  10. hi,

say i have 16bit tiff with couple of adjustment layers (curves/...)

and i convert this file to 8bit tiff. does the actual quality of the

photo decrease? the adjustment layers will now operate on 8bits so i

guess it will decrease. is then better to merge the layers before

converting to 8bits, so that all colour adjustments are done on 16bits

and the resulting 8bits tiff is generated afterwards?

    Thanks,

    david.
