My biggest regret with this shot is that I didn't hold the shutter

down, that way I may have actually caught the impact!!! I heard

skidding and just turned around and snapped this shot and another

shortly after. I didn't have time to check the settings and I

really did think I would have had some camera shake in the panic but

I am quite happy with the end result. All the pro's were ducking

for cover so I'm quite certain that no one else got the shot!!!

  1. Latham, thanks for the comment mate. I was there as a spectator and this shot was actually shot through a fence but the wire doesn't show!! I did try to get a pass but the organisers have there own photographers, but that won't stop me trying again next year. As for the colours, I'm not too sure. I only know that when you push provia you really only loose the mid tones, so I spose that is why it has retained it's unreal saturation in the shot.

I really like this shot. I was going to say it just isn't sharp but as a smaller image it is much finer. Nice. I reckon it would also look a bit better if the roadway was slightly darker.

  2. I've had a lot of positive feedback about this shot from the non

photography minded, and also sold quite a few prints to friends who

seem to love it. I would appreciate any comments etc from those who

don't mind getting behind the camera themselves! Great part of

Australia, the north coast of NSW (about 2 hours south of the border

    with Queensland).

  3. Robert, I like your idea with taking two images exposed for the two areas and then combining them in photoshop. I have nothing against photoshop and use it regularly but have never actually considered deliberately shooting with digital alterations in mind. I think this would have made this shot a stand out had I taken the two images! Thanks for the suggestions.

  4. Great camping spot in our Snowy Mountains, at a place called Island

Bend on the Snowy River, where you can catch heaps of fresh trout and

watch the satellites flying overhead at night the sky is that clear.

I think this shot would have been better with something like Provia.

The sky is also a little bright too, but this made difficult as it

was early morning and I didn't want the foreground underexposed. I

have NOT put this through photoshop either!

I knew as as soon as I saw this shot someone would have made mention of the right tyre. Damn shame, so close to being perfect. Apart from that I like it a lot.
