I have always found Green Herons a most difficult bird to capture on the
wing. I was lucky one morning this past summer to catch this one
approaching a hunting perch.
Taken with a Nikon D200, Nikon 500mm VR lens with Nikon
Teleconverter TC17EII.
Comments good or bad are welcomed.
Thanks, Ronnie Gaubert

Female Egret displaying to attract a mate at first light. Image taken at a
rookery in a cypress swamp near my home in Prairieville, La.

A mating pair taken this spring in a swamp near Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Taken with a Nikon D200, Nikon 500mm VR and a Nikon TC17EII.

Shot this one about 15 minutes before actual sunrise. Conditions
were just perfect this morning.
Comments and Critiqes, good or bad, welcome.

A light fog enabled me to completely isolate this Cypress Tree from
the far shoreline. Image was taken at Lake Martin, Louisiana.
Comments, good or bad welcome.

Fall colors in S. Louisiana are just starting. It's not like we get
an explosion of great colors down here. Cypress trees are my
favorite fall trees to shoot. Captured this on yesterday about 20
minutes before sunrise. It was a 15 second exposure.

This image is less about the Egret and more about the environment
that he thrives within. This egret was feeding among these very
large Bald Cypress trees in Lake Martin, Louisiana. Low water has
exposed the buttresses of these century old trees.

Good grief Harry, my biggest fear in life was that you would start shooting macros!!!! The black background really makes the flower and moth stand out so strongly. Nothing like the colors of Velvia, well done.

Hello Harry,
Two fish in one shot, one in the mouth and one in the air, it don't get any better. As always, wonderful work.

One of my favorite subjects to photograph. I think these guys just
love to have their pictures taken. Image was taken in ambient light
with a 300mm lens and 68mm of extension. A tripod was used for the
1/2 second exposure @ f/8.

Is the backgound out of focus or blured in ps?
I ran the image thru Neatimage which removes background noise. The background is natural. It's my backyard lawn about 50 feet behind the butterfly.

Have been trying for a long time to get a swallowtail with wings in
the upright position and on a single flower with a clean background.
All comments welcomed.

Still learning these low light, long exposures settings. This one
taken well before sun up at Lake Martin, Louisiana. This was a 20
second exposure. Surprised to not see much noise, especially with
the older technology of the D100. I read if you keep your comera's
histogram loaded as close to the right (light) side as possible,
your image will contain much less noise. It seemed to work nicely in
this image. Comments, good or bad are welcomed.

Experimenting with long exposures in very low light situations. I
find with low light there is more color saturation and even
illumination. This was a 3 second exposure, very late afternoon,
with barely enough light to focus. Comments appreciated.

Anthony,
If anything I think the fanned out tail feathers is the best thing about this image. You also caught him with a good head position and catch light in his eye. The weak points of this shot are the blown out whites of the belly feathers and the dark vertical line in the background. I think you stated it was a fence. If this is your first attempt at hummers, it's not all that bad. These guys can be really difficult to capture.

This trapper, a good friend of mine, passed away a few years ago. This series of images are the only ones ever taken of him trapping alligators in Louisiana.
-
This was a 30 second exposure. Conditions were really great for this
shot, clear skies, low ground fog and these great looking cypress
trees. Image was taken at Lake Martin, Louisiana.

Experimenting with stong backlight on some dandelion seed heads. The
background is an early morning, sunlit area on my lawn. The
dandelion was in the shade, so I used a flash to illuminate the seed
head. Comments welcomed.

Lake Martin is just a few miles Southeast of Lafayette, La. It's about 5 miles on the south side of I-10 at the Breaux Bridge exit. Great place to visit in April, May and June. About 40,000 wading birds nest their each year.

Shot this one very late in the afternoon. I was lucky to get a sharp
image with a 3 second exposure. Taken with a Nikon D200, Nikon
300mm f/4d lens and Nikon Extension Tube. This was ambient light, no
flash. Exposure was 3 seconds @ f/16, ISO-100, tripod with remote
release.
Any comment appreciated.
