I certaily don't mind the banality of the subject, in fact I think that's part of the photo's strenght. After all, photos are expressions of the photographer's feelings towards the subject not those of the general public, and this one shows a great deal of intimacy.
I think the composition could have been improved if you have pointed the camera a little bit upwards to avoid that part of the wall moving to darkness outside the composition. Adding a bit of text to explain the context might be a good idea too.
How did you get that effect? can you tell us more about the technical details?

Stephen, I would like to see some of those photos that you got cross processed. I don't think it was a matter of making the photo darker and greener, the results I got for other frames were more redish and yellowish. The reason I am asking is to be able to anticipate the results if I do this again on purpose. I'm attaching another frame from the same roll here

I like the angle of the shot. This is the second photo I see by you that has a main figure in the foreground shifted to one of the sides and many details in the backgroud.. I like this. I also think it was a good idea to take the shot from almost waist level because it captures more of the sky connoting aspiration.. quite befitting.
I noticed that your photos seem to generate so much controversy.. and I'm always on the positive side.

Excellent depth and contrast.. The composition captures the whole story.. infact, I can see a great deal of irony in it.. the only winner in the whole saga seems to be the one standing by.
I think the ratings are quite polarized, but over all unfair... I gave it 6 and 6.

I won't repeat what has already been said about how excellent this shot is, though I believe it is great. I wish you you had the two lovers shifted to the left, this would have eliminated most of the distracting glass rail and might have enhanced the kinetic elements of the photo, the centered figures are killing this. But then again I am not sure what was there on the right, this could have worked if there more people in motion there, while an empty sidewalk would have been an overkill. An excellent shot overall.

Infact, what makes this photo interesting is this contrast between the green park and the city below. The contrast and the fact that the photo was taken in the Middle East makes it more expressive.. I'm sure Europeans and Americans are not used to this, but this is what ME is all about, contradictions. Techinically, you could have use a polariser to eliminate the haze.

I couldn't do your monitor calibration recommendations, but I still liked the photo. No need to appologise for the digital photography, although it is not my cup of tea, but I think it works quite well for subjects like this one, there only problem seems to be skin tones. I wish you had a human figue in the composition, this would have further enhanced the viewer's sense of scale, I generally prefer to see people in architectural shots.. an excellent photo nevertheless

If you had said that this photo was taken in the 1920's I would have believed you. An interesting subject indeed, good composition as well, though I wish you had the purse in her hand inside. There are some lost details in the lower part of the photo due to over exposure, or scanning maybe. But overall, an intersting subject and pose with good composition. How did you get this antiquated effect?

Vince, thanks for the critique. I see your point about positioning the map in the middle, the idea was to make it look more heavenly with the post holding it out of the composition to make it float, I'm not sure how successful that was, I would certainly like to hear more comments on that. I also agree on your comment about color depth.

Mt. Nebo, Jordan, the mountain believed to be the place where Moses
was allowed to see the Holy Land. Nowadays the mountain is a memorial
site and destination for Christian pilgrimage. A sign shows the
distances to chritian sites in the West Bank, many of which are
closer than from Nebo to Amman.
