  1. My original images are scanned in from film for output of approx 15in x 10in @

300dpi. I'm downsizing them to approx 3x4in and putting 6 of them on a

seperate document for printing on labels from photoshop CS3. Now...I'm finding

that some of my images look terrible when printed because of pixelation. Thos

is the first time I've had to deal with a image I want to make smaller. A

friend of mine suggested that I use Adobe Illustrator since it won't actually

change the image. Before I spend hundreds of dollars I wanted to see if any of

the incredibally knowledgable people on this site had any suggestions on how I

might get better looking small prints through photoshop. Since my output will

be 300dpi and my original scan is 300dpi, I have no idea on how to make it

smaller without loosing information. Re-scanning thousands of images also

doesn't seem like a good idea either. Thanks for your time and have a great

    day.

  2. A local company has asked to use my photographs for their product labels. They

make drinks with custom labels and sell directly to the public (and corporate

functions). Each customer will choose a photo from a catalog of my photos and

get a case (30 bottles). I originally wanted to sell them royalty free with no

usage restrictions for a base price. They on the other hand insist on having

the full catalog of photos, and as customers pick one, they will contact me to

furnish them with an appropriate resolution, non-watermarked digial file of

the photo. This makes sense from their perspective because they don't want to

pay for photos that no one uses. My problem is how can I limit the usage of

the photo to 30 bottles once I give them a high resolution file. Is it just a

matter of trust that they will adhere to what's put in the contract? I've

never sold files before, only prints, so this is all new to me. Thanks for any

    suggestions.

  3. Has anyone ever heard of a problem where Adobe Gamma doesn't work at

all? I have an LCD monitor that seems way to bright and not

contrasty enough. I start Adobe Gamma, go through the steps, and no

matter what I choose, nothing changes. Even the slider bar with the

square and lines does nothing as I move it. Is there any other

option other than deleting Photoshop and starting all over? Any help

    would be greatly appreciated.

  4. I currently shoot 35mm, (100 ISO) and I HATE grain. A friend said

there is a film with virtually no grain...I think he said Tech-Pan.

Does anyone know of this or any other film with little or no grain,

(I know it sounds too good to be true). Thanks.

  5. I'm SERIOUSLY thinking of buying a sigma ef430 super flash for my

Canon Elan 7. Does anyone know if this is a completely compatible

flash? Will all the bells and whisles work? Will it be just like

having a Canon speedlite on my camera as far as dedication goes? I've

just spent the last 3 hours on the web trying to find the answer to

these questions. Any help or advise anyone can give would be greatly

    appreciated.

  6. I was hoping someone could help me with an argument/ discussion/

learning experience I'm having with an instructor of mine, (there's a

pizza going to whom ever is correct, so this is serious business).

Simple question: does a JPEG file lose information every time it is

opened and closed? When opened in PhotoShop, it's uncompressed and

then re-compressed when it's closed...does that cause loss? Or is

there only loss of image information when it's first compressed; and

when there is an alteration done to it, only that change will be

affected? Also...is there any reference book I can find this answer

in so as to prove the point. Thanks for any help you can give us.
