1.
thanks mukul.
your family photo is outstanding. don't worry about getting out of leica film bodies (another thread). you can always change your mind. it is the photograph that matters. some of my most cherished photos were taken by a Minolta srt-202 with the stock nikkor 50mm lens.

 2.
if I might wade into the maelstrom, I think ray meant the peripheral components of a photograph can make the difference between a good photograph and a great photograph.
I'm not sure if ray's friend meant the "misplaced" spoon in his photo was a good or bad element, but either way, it is (imo) such an insignificant detail in this photo that I would not deem it worthy of commenting upon, but ray was trying to make a point.
when shooting you do have to be exceptionally careful to see all the other elements in a frame other than the main subject, especially when shooting "street photography" or similar types of photography where the components are completely beyond your control and fluid. we have all taken what we thought at the time was going to be a great photo only to find later that a telephone pole was "growing" out of the subject's head. this is why a shallow depth of field is at times so helpful, but hard to pull off in bright light. (see my above post, where a background cup was in the frame but not distracting, but it would have been if the photo was shot at f8 instead of f1.4)
anyway, mukul, don't take it personally, it's only a discussion and we all enjoy your photographs.
cheers all and happy shooting.....
