Check your email Gonzalo - I have an f/4 El-Nikkor looking for a good home.

Al .. I read that pink is the "new blue" for men. Glad to see that you are on the cutting edge of fashion.

I'm going to be somewhere around Ohio on that day, on the road with my M6TTL and probably a IIIa or IIIc. I'll be at the Ft. Lauderdale show only in spirit. Have a great time.

Love the picture!

Karim - that is a great idea. If I were in control of the web site, it would be done now. But, let's be a bit more subtle. I'd prefer a picture of a Time Magazine plastic giveaway camera. Or, a camera someone gave me awhile ago at my birthday - the Nikon-not, a plastic camera with the name Nikon-not painted on the front.
-
I'm particularly interested in the film and developer. Tri-X or TMax? I can't read this off the contact sheet. The lighting is nice - looks like natural light. Any comments?

Kelly, I'm not sure about the cam follower on the Chiyotax, either. The only Japanese Leica
copies I've seen have been the Nicca Towers and they have a roller. However, there were
some other strange things about the Chiyotax, especially the paint job and also the lens
cap. But, the body covering and setup didn't look like a Russian copy.
Maybe someone out there has handled some of the other Japanese copies or is more
expert than I and can tell us if any of the Japanese Leica copies had other than a roller.

Kelly, Thanks. I've never owned a Fed or Zorki and haven't had a chance to look carefully
at the cam follower. I remembered what I have seen as a blunt arm but maybe the
triangular piece was actually missing from that example!
In the case of the Chiyotax clone, I emailed the seller and he responded with a photo of
the cam follower, clearly showing the triangular piece. I don't think he knew that the
camera he had was a fake and I wasn't completely sure. From the pictures, the fake
looked quite good, except for the shiny black paint job and the incorrect name on the lens
(at least for a Chiyotax).
I searched on the web and came up with an expired link to French Ebay, giving a listing for
a Chiyotax with a lens of the same, incorrect, name.
I first saw the Russian/Ukraine fakes in Moscow, when the street vendors were selling
them, before they hit the US, at least. I bought Russian enamel boxes, instead!

There are some other less obvious fakes or likely fakes. About a month or so ago there was a black paint Chiyotax on Ebay. This camera sold for about $450 with a lens (an Elmar copy with a black painted front rim). It had the wrong lens for a Chiyotax and a shiny black paint job in perfect condition. I suppose that it could have been a repaint job on a genuine Chiyotax. I emailed the seller and got a reply back with a picture showing the rangefinder cam follower on the body. The cam follower was an arm with a funny pivoting triangular piece with a slight curvature.
I've seen Feds or Zorkis (can't remember which ones) with just a one-piece arm with a rounded end for a cam follower. I haven't seen the pivoting triangle before. I have a genuine Tower (Nicca) and it has the round wheel on the cam follower, just like a Leica. So, I thought that most Japanese Leica copies would likely have the rounded wheel also.
Can someone comment on the pivoting triangular follower - Do some FEDs or Zorkis have this? Does a genuine Chiyotax have a wheel?

My understanding is that actual Vulcanite is a rubber compound press molded onto the body shell and that this process isn't done anymore. So, the only alternatives are modern vinyl or leather coverings.

I recently bought some Leica items and in the mix of things is a very
elegant old style metal lens cap. This is the type with the inner
circle (with Leica embossed) is raised above the flat rim, not the
type of lens cap with the raised rim. The inner diameter of the felt
is about 63mm.
I've never seen such a large lens cap in this style. There was a
Summarex for sale on Ebay, with a similar looking cap. Do I have a
Summarex lens cap? What other lenses might it fit, if any?

I've been using John Maddox in South Carolina for screwmount Leica repair. He is EXCELLENT and works only on screwmount Leicas (and the Japanese Leica copies). John prices his repairs very, very reasonably. The only downside is that he is very popular and he has a backlog of work. If you search on the web for John Maddox Leica repair, you can find his phone number.

I've been looking for an convenient way to put a lens hood on my
Summitar. I've got the barn-door folding hood but it really is a
monster and I'd like something smaller.
I've been thinking about using a 39mm to Summitar thread adapter
(Leica SNHOO, 13078) and mounting a 39mm hood to it. I finally found a
SNHOO on Ebay. However, it went for $66!!!!!! Someone here suggested
that one of the plastic Russian hoods might slip over the front of a
Summitar. Anyone have other suggestions or a SNHOO for sale?

I have several screwmount Leicas and would like some more options in new 50mm lenses - The Nokton is too large I think for the screwmount cameras and the 50mm f/2.5 Voigtlander hasn't received such great reviews. A 50 mm f/2.0 in a screwmount would be nice, but I missed getting one of the new version screwmount Summicrons at an affordable price - the Summicron isn't a lightweight anyway, particularly in the chrome mount.
Thus the Heliar has some interest for me .. not ideal but interesting, especially if it is such a good lens. If someone has nice things to say about the CV 2.5 50mm, I'd certainly like to hear some more about that lens!

I agree with sending the camera back to Don Goldberg. He serviced one of my screwmount Leicas but missed getting the rangefinder adjusted properly. When I returned the camera with a lens attached, he fixed it right away and returned the camera with almost no turnaround time.
Return the camera with the two films you posted. The light leak is very characteristic of something and with the new pictures, I'd be very, very surprised if Don can't fix it.

I'm a regular on the Leica forum and know all the best Leica repair
people. But, I don't know who is the most careful and economical for
mechanical Pentaxes. I just bought a beautiful MX (my second one) and
it seems to be in good operating shape. However, all the foam seals
are disintegrating. I can do the seal replacement if I order some
material but I'd just as well have a professional replace the seals
and check the camera. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

My apologies to Jay for my poor grammar. Today isn't tomorrow, it is today... and a long one at that. To others who will be able to come to the camera show .. I'll see you at the snack bar at 12. Before that, I'll be the person with the beard, carrying a small black Tamarac bag, containing either a Leica, or ... gasp .. a Pentax.
-
This is tomorrow, Saturday? The camera show opens at 11 a.m. on Sat. and 10 a.m. on Sun., to the best of my memory. Are we meeting at the snack bar at 12, or some other time.
I suggest snack bar at 12 sharp and wave a Leica?
-
I'm going to the camera show and would like to meet the other S. Florida Leica group members. I second the idea of meeting at the snack bar at noon and then going out to lunch.

I have several Heliopan filters for my 28mm f/2.0, which also takes the E46 filters. I haven't seen any vignetting. My suspicion is that there won't be any problem except with extremely thick filter rings, and maybe not even then. With this said, however, I agree that the thin B+W filters are very nice and should work well for you.
-
Yes, it is a Ig .. never knew that. But the lens and the thing on top - light meter or some sort of weird finder .. are a mystery to me.

Another possibility is to put the items up for consignment sale with Rich Pinto
(Photovillage). I sold a couple of non-Leica items through him. I didn't want to sell very
expensive items through Ebay and Rich took only a 10% commission. Now that I know this
group, I probably would offer Leica items here first.
