Hi,

I've been using FP4+ sheet film with Ilford Hypam (1:4) and the
Ilford instruction says to fix film for 4 min if a hardener is used.
I did an unexposed film test in the fixer and it clears within 45
sec. To fix twice the clearing time at 1 1/2 min is in my opinion too
short. Steve Anchell's recommendation is to fix thrice the clearing
time. That seems also a little short too, I think.
It seems like there is no one proper fixing time that people can
agree on. So, I've been following the manufacturer's 4 min. fixing.
Would that have been over-fixing? If so, do I expect to have damaged
negs in the long term?

Many Thanks,

Try PrimeMart, look for Larry Baker. Think he may have one recently.
I don't have his email at hand. Do a search on Ebay. He's registered
there.

I just love the whole process of photography (landscapes in
particular). Go into my own world, observe, feel, smell, sett up
gears, spot-metering, wait, release the shutter, process, print,
etc.. More often, without making a single picture and going home
empty-handed. The view camera really slows me down, allows me to make
more thoughtful pictures (90 per cent failure, still).
I live in a city (with limited nature reserves) and people must have
thought what a fool I am wasting precious time. No money and no
credit. But to me, it's just a joy to be out there with nature. Hope
the world would just freeze for a long, long time.

Flatbed vs drum scan
in Large Format
Posted
Hi,

Would someone please tell me if flatbed scan of large format B/W photographs is as good as or even better than drum scan? If flatbed is recommended, what type? Also, what resolution do I need for scanning of 1:1 high quality reproduction? Is color scan recommended or duo/Tritone, etc.?

This is rather new to me. Your response will be helpful.

Many Thanks,
