1. Excuse my ignorance but. I am going to use a studio tommorrow and

have no experience whatsoever with studio flash. What mode should I

use, and what effect does connecting a studio flash to the camera

have. In other words I have'nt got a clue what to do.

  2. I have been trying a friends 20-35 usm lens today on my Eos3 and

noticed when using auto focus although it works fine it is not quite

in proper focus. I have to tweak the manual focus ring very slightly

to obtain sharp focus. Even when focusing at infinity it is slightly

out. All my other lenses are ok. Anyone had this problem with a lens.

  3. Thanks for the replies. One reason I asked this question was that a friend has for sale 3-off camera shoe adapters, ttl hot shoe adapter 3, 3-connecting cords (coiled), 3-long cords, and a circular connecting block for 4 cables. So it seems that everything I need is there, is it? I have since decided to use 2 550ex not 3.
  4. Ive just had this with a Sigma lens on my Eos 3. It turned out to be the lens iris sticking at F9-F10 so it could happen with Canon lens. When the camera locks up try it on the other camera but make sure its at the same apperture as your 3, if it locks on that camera its got to be the lens.
  5. I've just had my 28-135 repaired under warranty for the same problem you have with your lens. Mine clicked at about 35-40mm along with a slight stiffness and I was told by the Canon repair shop this was a common problem with my lens and he knew exactly what the problem was. He also said that it would have to go back to Canon for repair as only they had the tools to take the lens apart.
  6. Steve,

I think the camera does count on the flash for some of the exposure with fill flash, at least that what it says in the manual, so if I'm out of range surely I will get an underexposed shot. I am using AV mode.

  7. I'm photographing a Buzzard (about 8 metres away) it is an overcast

day and I want a catchlight in the birds eye. I'm using Eos3 and

Sigma 50-500 @500. My 550ex says its out of range, will it still work

    or what do I do?

  8. Well I thought my Sigma lens was working ok after repair so used it

this weekend and yes it still blinks. So, I took it back to the shop

where I got it and told them I was not prepared to send it off again,

and also not prepared to send my Eos3 to Sigma as they reqested, so

they gave me another brand new Lens.

The problem BTW was a sticking iris at F9 and smaller.

When I got back home I put the lens on my camera and could not

believe that it did not work at all, no a/focus no m/focus

cofirmation, so thats it I'm swopping it for a Canon lens, probabaly

    a 100-400is.

Why should a brand new lens need an upgrade, when my friends

identical lens, but slightly different cosmetically, and is 3 years

old and has never had an upgrade, work perfect on my camera.

  9. I had the same decision a while ago between the Sigma and Canon 70-300IS and I went for the Sigma because its a bit sharper. But, I have already sent the Sigma in for repair and its only a few months old. I dont know if youre after the usm model because the focus is much slower and noisier on the Sigma and it hunts back and forth alot.

If I did it again I would go for the Canon without dout, but maybe the 100-300 usm. Have you had a look at www.photographyreview, plenty of user reviews there on all lenses.

  10. This is just an update to my previous post on 28,May for anyone who

    has simalar problems.

I have had the lens back from Sigma and it is now working perfect.

They said they could not find anything wrong with it but re-soldered

the chip and adjusted the iris. They also offered to do the same

repair on another lens that does the same thing, for free.

So it seems to me there is a problem with Eos3 and some Sigma lenses

    although they deny it.

  11. I keep getting the bc blinking when using a Sigma lens. It does when using BPE1 but same problem if I use 2CR5. This happens after 20-30 shots or so. When it blinks if I press the shutter I can hear the film advance to the next frame or even the mirror coming back down and then I can take the next shot. If I put a Canon lens on its ok and then if I put the Sigma back on the problem is still there.

The Sigma lens is at Sigma at the moment but they say they cant find anything wrong with it as yet.

Surely this is the lens at fault, not the body. I have another Sigma that does the same thing (3 years old) and a Sigma Macro that seems ok.

Anyone got a definite answer to this.

  12. Thats funny because I have a BPE1 with my Eos3 and I get the same

thing, that when Ive taken a shot I get the BC blinking and I have to

touch the shutter again and I can here the film advancing to the next

frame and I can then take the next shot. This is now driving me mad.

I have found that this only happens when using my Sigma lenses, and

if I take off the Sigma when it starts to blink and put a Canon lens

on it workks ok and then I try the Sigma again it starts to blink.

I also get this problem if I use a 2CR5.
