I recently picked up a yashica mat 124 G in mint condition. from now on this will probably be the camera I use most for b&w. Of late I have been using delta 100 souped in xtol 1:1. This has been a really good combo for my 35mm camera. Today I shot and developed a roll of 120 format d100. The grain was so fine I couldn't hardly focus, So I'm guessing that I could use one of the traditional emulsions and probably get better tonal range. Any of you medium format shooters have any suggestions.

I got a roll of Neopan 100 recently and developed in xtol 1:1. Since
this is a film that is not usually sold in the US, I couldn't find
any processing times either. If memory serves, I used the recommended
time for HP4 plus. The film turned out really nice.

I agree with Brian. Ilford Delta 400 is definitely my preferred 400
speed film. I would also consider Delta 100. You will have no problem
using this film with a 25A filter if you use a tripod. I also use
Xtol. This combo of film and developer is very forgiving and yields
great results.

I have recently given up on tmax and have started using ilford delta films. These films have responded quite well to xtol and I am very pleased. I am wondering why anyone would use tmax when delta appears to have similar grain size, better tonal range and has a much more tolerant development range?

My tmax negatives often produce prints that have white spots. I am using tap water to dilute chemicals and to rinse my negs. I am assuming that the water is my problem but I don't encounter this problem when developing tri x.

Thanks Conrad and Michael. These are great suggestions. I am going to use xtol on my next roll of tmax. One other quick note, in addition to the contrast problems, I have also experienced some pretty serious defects in the emulsion of my film. This problem appears to go away when I use tri x. Any recommendations?

I have developed a number of tmax 100 rolls using tmx developer with very frustrating results. I like the grain pattern but the contrast is absolutely awful. I am considering changing my developer to either xtol or microdol. Any recommendations? I am open to using other developers.

Hi Thomas,
I really like the delta films in 35mm format. But I will have to
admit I prefer the tonal range of the traditional ilford films. I
think I will stick with delta for portraiture (tonal range is less
important to me here) and experiment with hp4 & hp5 for landscape
photos.

Thanks all.
