1. Hi Domenico,

Like that general in Bastogne, surounded by the germans and asked to

surrender, say (and it's a very polite way) : NUTS !

Why would you give away of your property ! Author's right is a Wall

you don't cross, that's all we have. Some agencies and magazines try

to impose that and I strongly think we have to resist.

Anyway after that brilliant sentence...ask that band to sell his

    songs just one for all.

    A package...A good price...It's only a couple of songs, come on !

I don't think they would apprieciate.

    Guillaume.

  2. Hi to all,

July will be the big move for me, from Paris to Los Angeles.

Even if I go quite often there, I don't know which are the good places for :

-Lab: C41-E6 up to 8x10 and BW.

    -Furnitures Stores: Samy's, Calumet...What else ?

I'm going to move my lab too. Durst 138 and 184;It's really heavy, 184 is like an artillery piece but anyway I can't live without it.

They are all for W220, this is my concern.

-Transform them in W110 isn't a problem "IF" I can find there W110 lightbulbs for them ?

-Otherwise can I equip my Lab for 220 ?

    Thank you for any help

    Guillaume

  3. 1)-I wouldn't have my child play on the computer and...ERASE all my

    pictures !

    2)-I keep my negative.

Negative will never be changed on photoshop by somebody. Negative are

negative (and solid, you touch them !), Digital pic are 1 and 0.

Digital pic has absolutely No Value if you are able to modify the

image endlessly. Even worse, you loose the last control of your

    image.

  4. Domenico,

I'm making the same point as you and I agree with you.You

    misunderstanded me.

Today, if you are put in a certain category it's difficult to get out

of it. People in newspapers don't take any risk ;If you are good

taking shoes, they would never think of you for...boots.

I am calling myself an artist too, but I wouldn't have a problem if

the wedding pictures close to my portfolio were from, Seydou Keita by

example.Wedding photography was his day living, he didn't know

himself as an artist, an artisan maybe, until he was discovered by

some curators. Now his pictures are in a lot of museums.

Robert Doisneau used to work for Renault, full time job. He didn't

realize for a long time that he had treasures among his negatives.

These peoples that we admire today, we call them artists. At their

time they didn't have the title, the prestige and money coming from

that. Yes,they cleared the way for us.

Anyway, the important thing in photography is to have something to

    say in pictures.

  5. The more we go on, we, photographers are put into categories :

Advertising, Photojournalism, Still life, Landscape, LF or not..., etc, etc...artistic or not, pictures in each format size, from Minox to ULF.

Ouf ! they are so many categories and types that I apologize in advance to the one I forgot.

Well, Kertesz in his time, used to do a lot of pictures, of many different categories. Jumping one day from portraits, to the next, still life.

Most of the time they were assignements !

-The still life of "the fork" was an ad.

-The series of distorted portraits was an assignement too, for a magazine giving him "carte blanche" !

    Today it's Art.

So, before any category we could be put in, there is only one that matters.

We are PHOTOGRAPHERS, whatever we do or use.

  6. Hi,

I have a 121 mn Super Angulon mounted on Hobo. I'm not really satisfied with the DOF;I need to be at least at f;32 to be confortable. Maybe with an helicoidal ramp I could setup two ranges, one for a close up, another one for infinity, or even more.

Where can I get that !

Does somebody knows if it already exist for that shutter ( compur 0 ).

Any idea is welcome, thank you.

long life to this Forum !

  7. Bruce,

If you go to Nice, you will have anyway to stop by Paris.

Go to PROPHOT ( www.prophot.com ), they are Rue Condorcet in the 9°

    arrondissement.

This is "The Shop" where you can find any sheet film, BW including

Bergger, Color neg or E6 in 4x5 to 5x7 and of course 8x10. They are

    very competent and friendly.

I take there my Bergger film in 8x10 and 4x10. So you really have

    whatever you want.

On the same street, you have an excellent rental shop who rent field

(4x5) or studio 8x10 and any lense you want.

It's Claude Rigal's Shop. I can give you more infos on that, but.

But it's going to be difficult for you to rent.. because you

need "caution check" and bla bla bla...

It's better to bring your Deardorff, rent the tripod (it's cheap so

you can deal for the caution) and buy film there.

    Feel free to contact me.

    Regards
