  1. Of course you do know the lower the speed of the film, the finer the grain. So I assume you question addresses the 400 speed films.

    I've always favored Tri-x. It has always come through for both tonality and grain in that speed catagory- as lone as you don't try a push the he** out of it.Others favor Agfa or Fugi Neopan 400. Others say that the most "developer manipulative" is J&C's classic 400.

     

    Now be prepare for an onslaught of recommendations of developers and techniques for processing for fine grain.
