  1. I am printing color. I have not profiled/calibrated my system, yet. Although, what I see on the screen is pretty close to what the 1280 outputs. I have color management on the 1280 turned off. I downloaded P.I.M II sw from Epson which gave me some generic profiles for certain papers and the 1280.

The colors are not flat. It is more the image itself. Not as much depth as the ones from my lab.

Well, I am not going to obsess (sp?) over this for now. I am scheduled for an intensive 4-day Photoshop class in NYC next month afterwhich I hope to have a better understanding of the digtal workflow, advantages and limitations.

    Thanks for the replies.

  2. Linda, the 50mm f/1.8 should be fine.

Re the 10D. Buy one if you can afford it. I own one and like it. The wedding studio I shoot for uses both the 10d and the 1D for wedding work. As others have pointed out, the 10D gives you a digital negative which you must then take into your digital darkroom and work with. I am struggling to learn Photoshop as I write this.

    Good luck and have fun!

  3. First suggestion is to read the manual. Check out C.Fn. - #5.

And no, the external flash does not have to be in manual mode, nor does the camera. (Where do people get this mis-information from?) External flash works in all modes. (Well, P,M,Av, and Tv. I don't mess with other modes.)

I think the custom function you want is 2. However, my 10D is set to the default of 0 and my external 550 flash works just fine. On camera or with the off-camera cord.

  4. If you want to go digital, buy a 10D and use your existing Canon lenses. Actually for the price of a 1D you could get a new 10D and a used 501CM kit. BTW, the 1D is being discountinued, or so I have heard. My dealer can no longer get them, but Canon have not made an official announcement.

    Good luck.

  5. A question for you experienced Mamiya 6 users... Does the viewfinder

    correct for parallax?

I shoot weddings for a local studio and the first weddings I did

with the M6 I was getting the subjects heads too close to the edge

of the frame and some shots weren't centered (subjects too far to

    the right.)

The last two weddings I did I used my Hassy 501 for more of the

formal shots and the photos looked better as regards the above. So,

I thought this might be a parallax issue.

  6. Adrian,

Thanks for the info. I'll give that a try. The firewire connection appears to be fine. It shows up in device manager as working properly and XP is able to determine what camera is attached to the PC via the firewire connection.

I'll check the settings in Adobe and let you know.

    Regards,

    Doug

  7. Has anyone succesfully gotten Windows XP to recognize the Canon GL2?

The camera did not come with drivers, except for seting up

photostitch and zoombrowser or browserEX (don't recall exact name.)

Canon site is no help. Driver downloaded does not include any driver

files that I can see and XP hardware setup can't see any either.

Perhaps I just don't understand. I am very new to video editing and

just want to get XP to recognize the camera so I can capture video

from its tape to Adobe Premier.

    Any info would be appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Doug

  8. Interesting thread. When I point my 10D at a grey card and take a picture the histogram shows underexposure. When I shoot weddings for the studio, we set the 10D to overexpose by +2/3, when indoors using flash we set the flash for +2/3 exposure compsenation. A similar thread on another board had results similar to mine.

Guess that is why photography is an art and not a science! (-:
