Thanks Dan
I can't understand why the leak would be intermittent across any one, or several of the tanks.
All pipe connections look fine to me and no obvious damage to the pipes.
I am not filling the chemical bottles full, with the required amount for the film/tank which so
far has been a 2523.

I have recently acquired and plumbed in the ATL-2300 and am getting an
intermittent error, occasionally a this doesn't occur, but more often
than not at least one of the 3 baths of E6 chemicals are not pumped
across into the drum. I am using the front bank of tanks and tanks 1-3.
The machine makes a bleeping sound, by pressing "Start" it then pumps
the chemicals across with no difficulty whatsoever. This problem is
causing streaking on some sheets of film (mostly doing 5x4 E6) and
clearly isn't operating as an Auto machine as I have to be on standby
to go and press the button!
I have checked seals on lids of chemical bottles, smeared thick
Silicone grease around the top of the o-rings on the bottle, replaced
the red seal on each of the tank lids, but still the problem recurs.
FWIW I have tried Autofill options and where I set the chemical volume
manually. This seems to have no effect on the problem.
Those that have experience of these machines please could you advise on
what I should be checking to rectify the problem?
Prior to this I have been using an ATL-1000 which has been fine with
the tanks I am using now
Many thanks

I have been developing pains in the tendons in the back of my hands over the
last few weeks. I am fairly sure that this is the onset of RSI........ After a week
long seasonal break from the computer they are back today after little typing/
mousework.
Will a graphics tablet help me prevent this situation worsening?
If so which size of the Intuos 3 ones to go for? I have a 20 inch Formac 2010
LCD monitor and do quite a few pen paths and dust removal at 100% zoom of
my scans. I would prefer the smaller A5 since it is cheaper and woudn't be
such a tight fit on the desk.
Seeking practical and impartial advice, not available from the Wacom
website!
Many thanks

I need to replace my old epson 1200 scanner, for use with mono
and tranny film. I'm looking at umax 1120 (improved 1100),
microtek 8700 or epson 2450. Budget under £1000. I have
concerns about ability to scan 6x12 which I use quite a lot,
seems no problems with 4x5 and 6x6, 6x7 etc. I do not need to
scan film larger than 4x5.
Please could anyone offer advice on how these scanners cope
with the format and also any comments about quality and ICC
issues especially Silverfast system of icc generation.
Dmax seems better for umax, but is 3.7 noticeably different from
3.4? Shadow detail has been (understandably) poor with the
1200.

I too use Phototrekker AW, has been brilliant.
Manage to carry Ebony RSW45, 90 and 120 lenses, 6x12rfh,
bronica SQA with 80 and 150lenses, meter, loupe , filters and in
front pckets I put 10DDslides. Once taken I swap the DDS to
pocket on other side. Needless to say not much room left which
my wife and bank is happy about!
Harness is very comfy

I am keen to try Mono IR film initially on 6x12 roll film back on my
Ebony RSW (therefore no focus scale), before I try to source 5x4
sheet. I am not sure how to compensate for the focus shift once
I've correctly set-up the shot in the normal way on GG. I normally
take an SQA with me so might be able to use the focussing on
this in some way.

I shoot landscapes using 120mm and 90mm lenses and
generally am looking for full front to back sharpness.

I can't recall seeing any mention of this in the books I've read, but
am prepared to buy books if necessary.

Also in UK we are awaiting this years batch of Konica IR, are
there any other films in 120 (and 5x4) which I ought to consider.

Thanks very much for the advice. I shall practise doing it with the
lights on, get my blu-tack out and then when the lights go
out.....wahaay!

Glad that it seems I'm not the only one to have experienced
difficultirs and yes I too lost skin turning the valve!

I've just bought an HP Combi-plan T' tank to replace a stainless
Nikor spiral tank which was scratching the 4x5 negs with
occasional other problems.

I need to use inversion and have to use it in daylight mode, since
I do not have a proper darkroom. I am only using it for B+W and
currently am using DiXactol developer with Agfa APX100 film.

I have found a number of problems on first use, which hopefully
experienced users will be able to offer advice, dodges or
techniques to alleviate. Research led me to believe that the
Combi--tank is the preferred dev tank for 4x5 and so either these
problems are not significant, or more likely, I'm missing a few
tricks and need more procatise!

1. Whilst loading film and placing film retaining clip on, I
managed to get two sheets in one of the vee's preventing
process fluids reaching top portion of one sheet. Also managed
to get two sheets in one slot, despite trying to be careful and
using fingers to locate sheet along loading guide.

2. Top valve is very stiff to rotate especially with wet fingers. If not
closed fully, dev etc leaks out of vent.

3. It takes an inordinate amount of time to pour fluid in, 30 s or so
I think. Clearly there is risk of uneven development and stop
washes not being so effective. By applying breath pressure to
funnel I was able to speed up drain process, but clearly have
reservations about doing this on regular basis!

4. After the fix am I right that I can lift off lid to speed up wash
water changes? If so, can I also do this for the staining stage of
DiXactol developer?

Additional query, have just processed a 120 roll of APX400 which
seems to have a much greater base fog. Or have I messed up
on this too?!!!
Jobo ATL-2300 Chemical pumping error
in The Wet Darkroom: Film, Paper & Chemistry
Posted
Thanks. I have printed off the helpful dissembly instructions from the JOBO USA website and
intend to have a serious go at locating the fault.
One other thing which i remembered and is presumably relevant, is that when performing a
cleaning cycle, the machine has never given this pumping error in any of the bottles
irrespective of how full I have
filled the chemical bottles with water.
