  1. Alan, Most people buy a .58 in order to see the 28mm framelines esp if they wear glasses. In your case if you always use the external finder with your 28, theres not much point in a .58 as the .72 has the visible 35mm framelines (even for spec wearers) that you are looking for. Then again, you may think that .72 and .85 are too close together and you could be right! Personally Id get a .58 for the 28mm and use it without the ext finder and then keep the .85 for your 50,90 and 135
  2. before I started had my M6, I had no real idea on what a guestimate exposure setting for a given scene, because i had never used any of my cameras on full manual mode before (because of AE!), but the more I used the M6, the more the guesses became more accurate. I think if you get the MP, you will soonner or later intinctively know what combinations are correct.
  3. Baidra,

If you have used compact point and shoot cameras and am pleased with the 'view' and 'shape' of the camera, then youll get along just fine with a Leica M. It does take time though, but once you get used to it, you will think SLRs are big clumpy noisy lumps! ;] Just dive in!

  4. Tony, I think that you are not used the 'leica' feel. The smaller sized lenses in particular have a very loosely bearing coupled aperture ring which you may either love or hate. I personally love them as I can change the aperture just by sliding one finger along the ring. You wont be able to do this with other lenses because they are so stiff. By all means take it back the shop, but I think its normal.
  5. Kaj, I must sympathise with you as the first time I dismantled a lens i found it VERY difficult to match the 2 helicoils properly when putting it back together. I managed to do it after about 2 days I think, but im really glad as I did it as the lens was mega smooth afterwards.
  6. This brings back the old saying of 'they dont make em like they used to'. Its very true that older cameras of Canon, contax, Pentax even. Had a certain air of quality about them. If you really think about it, while other camera manufactures carried on getting more into hi-tech gadgets and production line manufacturing with the cheapest material, Leica froze in time, most prob because they knew they had a niche market where only the essentials were improved with the best materials available.
  7. The main difference to me is the quality of construction and attention to detail (notably more the M style rangefinders, than the R type SLRs. Just hold one in your hand and feel that solidity, then try the lens focussing, aperture selection, body wind on and the shutter release, so silky smooth and quiet. Theres no other camera thats quite like a leica! (well not any more anyway) ;)

Just go to a shop and 'ave a go, all will be revealed!

  8. I am happy with my p150, I have replaced the standard hector lens with the colorplan, slightly better, though as with all things leic

a, shelling out more money doesnt guarantee equal increase in performance. The worst thing for me though is the autofocus, which is a pain if you dont use glass mounted slides, when the slide heats up and pops, the autofocus goes ape.
