Why Is Photography Important?
awaraagard replied to michaellinder's topic in The History & Philosophy of Photography
<p>Andre Bazin, French film theorist, said that photography saves time from its proper corruption. To my understanding, nothing can be more spiteful than to allow an epoch to pass without credible visual references. Any deliberate apathy makes existing chronological and referential data gravely treacherous and untrustworthy. Question of reliability of modern day research since the beginning of 20th century took several exciting twists with novel insight and intriguing exploration of world cultures through the lens of a camera. This discovery of photographic evidence also unleashed a new perspective on modern history. A photograph is a substitute for seeing the real thing; so availability of images related to themes in history strengthened specificity of research. Twentieth Century academics extended reliance on what we now call ‘a culture of visual memory. It is just one aspect of why photography is so important.</p> -

Rick's observations are valid to great extent, but I'd endorse photographer's decision to upload this pick on account that in the street very interesting events go by without much margins for applying rules. Ernst Haas labels photographer as a "painter in hurry", overwhelmed by too many changing impressions on all sides. a decision to ask the pedestrian walk on the other side would suck crunchy candid spirit out of this remarkable street shot!

Cricket fever sweeps over Pakistan faster than Malaria or any other epidemic. Having won 1992 Cricket World Cup, the nation stakes its pride on any game that Pakistan plays, particularly against arch rivals India. Streets are actual breeding centers of world class cricketers. Street cricket is thrilling, rough, gritty and very competitive. Many players do not afford to buy stumps, so they use various items instead. Here, a reed basket is being used in place of stumps.

Pakistan’s ruling party Muslim League [Nawaz] had sweeping victory in 2013 elections. Even with convincing majority in National Assembly, the party fails to steer the country through dire strait of appalling economy and injustice. Lion is PML-N’s electoral icon. An elderly voter sitting under a stony lion ponders why he voted for a party which once again failed masses with false promises of peace and stability.
