  1. Took this through my Yashica MAT LM's viewfinder with a D70, SB-800

off-camera directly over the flowers. Thoughts?

(BTW, I've noticed that for some reason, the image-handling process

when uploading seems to introduce an inordinate amount of artifacts

and degradation - anyone else have this issue? I've tried level 10

    JPEGs and uncompressed PNGs.)

  2. Very cool colors and composition.

My only complaints would be that the image seems a bit soft and I wish the red plants/seaweed at the bottom didn't go out of the frame. Not sure of the surroundings and whether this could've been prevented, though.

    Overall though, nice shot.

  3. This is a cool looking piece of machinery.

A few opinions on the composition:

    - I'm not sure the power lines crossing the top add much to the photo. They are sort of neat in that they almost parallel the railroad track, but not quite. If you take them away though, you have a lot of unused space. Perhaps a horizontal composition with a bit less sky and more of the surroundings would've worked better?

    - Failing the above, I wonder if a different perspective would work. Maybe getting closer, lower, different angles and such. If you have more access to this, it might be worth a shot!

    Paddler

    I like the idea here.

    A couple of thoughts:

    - It'd be nice if the paddle on the left didn't go out of the frame.

    - The overall scene is a little too dark. What might be good is to selectively adjust the levels of the water, then you have more contrast between that and the people, almost like a silhouette.

    Good job!

    The Reflection

          1

Jusr curious what others think of this photo. Saw the mirrored wall

while walking down the sidewalk, thought that placing the focus on

the stickers with my girlfriend a secondary subject would be

    interesting.

  4. I was recently in NYC and my timing had me there while the remnants

of hurricane/tropical storm/tropical depression Ernesto were moving

through the area. The wind wasn't much of an issue, but one

sidestreet was being hit pretty hard by gusts being funneled between

some buildings. I started snapping pics of unsuspecting people

carrying their umbrellas being hit by these gusts - I thought this

shot was the most interesting. I intentionally went with a slow

shutter speed to try to capture the movement of the wind. Did that

    work? Thoughts?

  5. It's been raining a lot this summer here in Juneau, Alaska, and when

I passed the pickup that had this dog inside, it seemed an

appropriate representation of most people's feelings about the rain.

The reflections are a little distracting, but at the same time they

reflect some of the buildings in the downtown area (as well as the

    photographer...). Thoughts?

    Sailboat Sunset

          3

Nothing like hanging three feet over a pitching sailboat, trying to

keep the horizon somewhat level! I did use a 2-stop graduated ND on

this, otherwise the boat/water at the bottom would've been very

    underexposed.

Thoughts? Anything I could've done better? Thanks!

    Chilkat Sunset

          2

I was having trouble capturing this sunset - my 2-stop ND filter

wasn't quite enough to level out the image. So I backed up through

some trees for this shot. Did it work? Thoughts? Thanks!
