  1. The image sensor is cleaned with either a brush blower for lens cleaning (take off the brush part) or special "tools", referred to in many previous discussions on this site. The sensor is not self-cleaning. To be able to clean it, you have to follow the steps as indicated in the manual. I had no problem in understanding it what and when has to be done. I have not yet cleaned it (after 8 months) with anything else than a blower. Not very happy with the results, but still managed to get rid of some of the dust. If the dust particles are visible on the photo, I use PS to eliminate them completely. Hope this is helpful. Good luck.
  2. Hello there,

There is really something unusual with the attached DO IS Lens photo. I compared the bokeh with the photos and links with submitted photos in the previous Bob Atkins posting on 70-300 DO IS shipping and Tom Applegate's photo. This one seem very strange. I believe it is the matter of camera, focus etc..

I have no reason to suspect that $1300 lens would behave so stragely.

  3. I just checked Amazon.com @

and the price of above lens is set at US$ 1,299.95 with availabilty

as: "This item will be released on May 1, 2004. You may order it now

and we will ship it to you when it arrives.".

Here in Canada, few Toronto dealers are also accepting pre-orders at

Can$1,790-1,890, but no words on availability dates yet.

  4. There are many factors that affect the picture quality, it is not only digital camera and lenses but also all other creative and programmed features as well as weather and time factors, not to forget the most important one, human factor. I have dRebel since October last year, and I am happy with it. It is better than the cameras you listed. Your lenses are also first class ones (at least the first three listed). 1D is perhaps slightly better, but in essence it is the same picture processor. Just keep shooting and improvement in pictures comes also with lessons learned and experience.
  5. Hello guys,

I am currently looking into buying a slightly used EF 70-200 f/4 USM

from a friend for my dRebel. I am just curious, has anyone tried the

extenders with it? I am not sure if I should buy 1.4x or 2x, or

nothing at all? I have no money for more expensive lenses. Advice is

    appreciated. Thank you.

  6. Thanks Bob, I appreciate your respone and suggestions found in your article. Looks like 28-135 IS is a choice for everyday shooting, otherwise, I would be confined to carry the tripod all the time given the length and weight of 35-350 lens.
  7. I have Digital Rebel with 17-40 f/4.0 L USM lens. I was thinking of

    buying also a 35-350 f/3.5-5.6 L USM as a everyday and travel lens. I

know it is heavy, costly and bulky, but I was interested in hearing

about the qualities of the lens. Any comments and or suggestions in

    this regard? Thank you.
