1.
Josh, again you I thank you for being the maestro you are, I would be lost (literally!) without your knowledge and amazing capacity for patience both of which I am indebted to.
Thanks.

I am still having some difficulty changing it to view,,,, -

(not sure what this means?)

 2.
Sorry Charles, you too Josh, (thank you to both for replying)

I was away in Tuscany, (very beautiful).

In regards to your question "it would be helpful to know what exactly you are trying to change your URL to. "
I asked my nephew if he could help me out with the url difficulties being much more web savvy than myself and then when I get back find out that not only do I have no url link, (to what should be - http:hughhillphotography.com ) but also that my name has been changed from Hugh Hill to Hugh 'Stone'.
At first I thought it was someone playing a joke at your end but after some exchange my nephew admitted he thought I needed something a little more 'creative' so decided to help me! now I am stuck with a name that has no connection to my website let alone any sense.

I don't want to have to delete my account and start again but think this may be the only way?

Any Ideas?

Thanks

 3.
Hello Jim,

In truth I believe that all ratings should be barred unless accompanied by a comment/criticism...It just does not make any sense to see a 7, 6, 5, , ,2, or a 1 without an exclamation of a why?
I am with you that ratings should be tougher but we will never be able to get to the top of the crazy 'Mate Rating' syndicates here or all the little mafias with the 'you are either with us or else' attitudes thus resulting in 'Rate Haters' I guess we just have to ignore the systems and focus on our own work with a true heart and if we have to give then give from there,,,,but always with the explanation of a why!
I wont allow rating of my images but just ask for a comment, and guess what? Almost no one ever does!

Lovely to see you still around.

 4.
it will not allow me to make changes to my user URL in 'Update basic information' I have tried but it gives this error message -

You may only use letters, numbers, underscore and hyphen in your gallery short name. If you didn't change it, you may have had a space in there from before. We no longer allow this; please remove any spaces.

and then resets itself back to the old user URL?

I have have done everything and can't understand what can be causing this.....

Any light much appreciated.

Thanks

 5.
Matt,
Thank you for that rapid response I really appreciated it, I didn't reply here as it was very late (You must be state side.)
I concur with you, Randall & Philip (Thanks guy's!) It has to be the cards and treatment of, as I recall he is not that familiar with computers or hardware coming to digital from film fairly late so maybe a lesson or two in this may be the best option to prevent future catastrophes.

Once again thank you all.

 6.
A friend of mine who is a firefighter and keen photographer called me today in a bit of a flux, he said that he had a problem but wasn't entirely sure what was causing it,....

He said that he was working at the Nottinghill Carnival over the weekend and while there had used around 6 cards taking some great shots with his old 10D but said that the problem started when he was trying to capture,,, said it managed to go halfway through the first card (all Raw) and that bridge gave him an error something to the extent that he needed to charge his camera? 'Yes!' that's what he told me, and added that he wasn't using the camera to capture but the CF reader and that bridge informed him that it had successfully loaded some of the images to a folder.
When he went to look for the rest of the files on the card there were none (surpise, surprise!) bit when he went to properties and looked at the disk size he noticed that almost a GB was being used up (which was about the same in the amount of photographs missing) he tried n other cards and the same thing.

All in all he has given me 6 cards to look at and to be honest I am utterly stumped, I believe it may be his old 10D on its last legs or maybe his card reader to be honest I am not sure.
He has recently got himself a mint condition Dell precision 690 which has been working perfectly well until this recent faux pas, so he thinks that it could be the culprit,,,on which account I doubt as I got him to shoot a card on his 1Ds MKII and it copied on the same card reader without neither fault nor fail....
Has anyone here experienced this or anything remotely similar and if so would they mind sharing their experiences in the hope that it could help him and others who may face similar experiences.

Regards & Thanks

Hugh Hill

ps If it helps, the CF cards varied from cheap Jessops to San Disk Extreme IV's

00ZGIo-394259584.jpg.625e05d6ae29e8912efa644f9a7672c7.jpg

 7.
Thanks Howard for your rapid response, I have contacted hahnemuehle and now just waiting for them to get back to me as I believe if they are going to charge me top dollar for using their glorious media (and it is!) then they can at least provide an appropriate profile or recommend one.
failing that I will look for another media supplier that provides one and then fine tune it my end.

Thanks again

Regards

Hugh

 8.
I was hoping on using hahnemuehle daguerre canvas 400g 17 inch roll x 12 mtrs, but because the 4000 is quite old was told by another photographer that the profiles that hahnemuehle provide for it (the Epson 4000) are not great. If this is the case does anyone know how I could manage to custom profile it so that I can get the best quality the machine is possible in producing with that medium. It's this technical side I am not too hot on.

Any advice greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Hugh

 9.
I would like to try and run some canvas prints on my old Epson 4000 but thought to do so first I'll need to know what canvas is best for it and produces the nicest results?
Which leads me to ask, does anyone from P.N (UK Side) know from experience of any good quality canvas rolls that I should use and if so where from.

Looking for as many as possible as I'd like to test & compare the output print quality and then go with the one that I am most happy with.

Also does anyone know what the average roll size is that the Epson 4000 can accommodate as i don't want to be ordering something that won’t fit :(

And finally, is there anything else you can think of that I should know probably you have learned from experience, for example is there a thickness I should avoid, what rolls to avoid and so on,

Thank you all in advance

Regards

Hugh Hill. (hmdigiart)

ps. I did a Google search and didn't find much so was hoping that some of my fellow photographers/p.netters may be able to help advise me.

 10.
Thanks Josh,
'Fred' Yesterday it was displayed in top photos in past 24 hours halfway down page 4 and was creeping up, but then it just disappeared? I mean I hope I haven't offended anyone if so then it was never my intention.

Thanks Jeff, my thoughts exactly, just couldn't work it out, why or how but I knew Josh would be able to explain it (Josh, your a diamond geezer!)
Josh I know for a fact you wouldn't have stopped it as you have let a full nudity through before on the care in the community image.
I think you are all right and that its just a glitch and images selected for critique only are not allowed in the section of 'most viewed images', To be honest I am not bothered with rating it's the comments I learn from and find out from them who really knows about photography and understands the picture and take great pleasure communicating with such people.
it's just nice to be able to share your work where it can be seen and get peoples vies not just on the technical aspects but the cultural & social ones too.
Anyway, I am really happy its just a glitch as I took some great picture on that day that I am now looking forward to uploading and sharing them the community :)

Thank you all for explaining how it is, Josh, Fred, & Jeff.

 11.
Like many of London's events I was asked to cover the gay pride last Saturday of which I did and must say got some great shots in doing so. Yesterday I decided to stick one up and no sooner than it was up it was on the 4th page of 'most viewed in the past 24 hours' and then for some unknown reason it was taken down?
Now this was in the events section and it was after all a family event shared by all young & old gay & straight so I don't know why it should be pulled so thought it must be a mistake and that's why I am contacting you
I mean, does this offend anyone - http://www.photo.net/photo/13654832
if not then can someone please give a valid reason/explanation as to why or how this happened.
in the 'events page most viewed pictures in the past three days' at 75 views also considering that if it was not moved it would probably have a lot more views by now so it should have the right to be there, no?

I spend my life campaigning for equality and use my work to put points across whether its the London Gay Pride, or homeless issues in Europe to campaigning for equality in the Middle East and other causes.
it just confuses me why having above the acquired number of most views for events in the past three day's its still not being shown,,,

Any ideas why guy's?

Patiently

HH

 12.
Guy's what can I say, this is what makes Photo.net the best photographers website out there, it's not just the beautiful pictures or abundance of information but the people like you committed to helping one another for the passion of the art.
I'd like to thank each and everyone of you and hope that this Christmas is a happy & special time for you and all those you hold dear.
Regards

Hugh

 13.
Does anyone know how I can protect my lenses/camera from extreme humidity/condensation.as I will be travelling soon to a jungle climate that is very tropical & humid. I believe that if I am not to careful this could later lead to serious issues especially with fungus.
Does anyone here know how best to avoided this if so please share.
Thank you

Hugh

 14.
Dear esteemed friend,

Although we only knew each other through our work the short words we often passed between comments to me spoke volumes.
Your big heart was so filled with love for the world that eventually it could hold no more.
It saddens me greatly with the knowledge that the world is losing a great man but I know that in heaven you are as much an angel as you were here.

So long dear friend.
